Produced in 2005, this 54 minute documentary, written & directed by Kevin Harris - looks at the phenomenon of township families who, over the preceding decade, had moved to the elite Johannesburg Northern Suburbs - reflecting on how they see their new environment in relation to their township roots.
Featured are Ms Angie Baloyi, Dr Elijah & Valerie Nkosi & family, Brian Mdluli & family, Ms Sibongile Mazibuko & son Musa and Ms Ruth Gumbi.

This was great to rewatch. Being featured in it, 16 years ago, it feels like an old VHS tape of my family and the political environment of the time. Thank you!

This documentary is RU-vid GOLD. It's interesting how so much has changed over the years. Yet, so much remains the same. Degrees and education are no longer the secure answer to attaining the luxurious suburban lifestyle in this New South Africa, the goalposts have moved further.

Really interesting. I hope things have improved for black families living in the northern suburbs in 2023, but I fear it’s probably not changed enough.
