Sandy Flat Campground | Sequoia National Forest | Kern River | Site by Site Exploration 

Sandy Flat Campground is one of several campgrounds located within the Sequoia National Forest, along the bank of the Kern river.
The campground is located down a paved, windy road. Compared to our tours of other campgrounds in the Sequoia National Forest system, specifically those along the Kern, this one may rank as one of our least favorites at first glance (sorry!).
Keep in mind we did not spend the night or hang out, but many of the sites seem very close together, and many are very exposed to the sun. Makes you wonder why they design these things so differently!
Out of the campgrounds in this more southerly region of the Kernville area, we preferred Hobo Campground, right up the road. Perhaps check out our site by site for that one to compare before booking a site here and see if you agree!
That said, if you are limited to choices in the area, we have seen a lot worse, and hopefully the cool river more than makes up for it! We don't want to make this one seem bad, because just look around at the scene! Chances are you'll still camp happily here!
