Daang a church with young people as well as old and nobody's complaining we need to be doing the contemporary thing...this is real music with all four parts singing a song that actually has meaning to it...LOVE it!
I remember this hymn being sung at my great grandmother's funeral when I was a boy. She was a godly woman, who was Mennonite. This hymn has special meaning to me.
Tears just flowed down my cheeks when i hear you all sing this famous hymn. Keep up the good work as we all need to praise his holy name especially at this time.
The mennonites can sing most beautifully. I was once in a church choir, as a child, but left religion behind as it didn’t resonate with everyday life and modern logical reasoning. But the longing is strong and hymns like these make me cry.
I truly believe this people sing for the glory of God.... I love this song and grew up singing it often in our church.... I TOO know Him whom we have believed for our salvation.
Simple, but beautiful. From the simple small, plain homey church building, to the well dedicated church members and the voices of the church choir and church congregation. That's what worship really should be about. The smaller, simpler, and close knit is what it should be.
Keith in Boston, Massachusetts. We still love the Lord here in New England. Ioved what you said. I was too raised in a Christian home and so grateful. I now live in skyscrapers in Boston for work. That’s home now but a ministry and home and work and supply. God finds anyone in Boston or NYC or anywhere. Thanks for your music.
I went to Mennonite Vacation Bible School when I was young (I am 76 now) and I remember them as Loving, GODLY people. This music is SO wonderful and I can't get over THAT BASS.....perfection..!
As a chief of all sinners, why me? I deserve to end in Hell, but He gave me life. I should have died years ago and currently be on endless agony, but why me? I don’t know, I can’t say, I dont have an answer. Lord, me wretched, saved by Grace. I don’t know why, but I know the Saviour loves me. Thank you, Lord.
Man !!! If I was in that church singing this truth, I would be a crying wreched wreck, instead, I'm here a crying wreched redeemed grateful wreck!!! Keep singing God's Truth!!
I love RU-vid and love this beautiful old song. I have played for church for over 50 years, starting at 14 and I am looking at 71 real soon. I know this one by heart and being in the military I have traveled around the world. I was never without a church to play for either the piano or organ (generally the organ as pianist were more abundant). I read music fine but I also play by ear as well. My grandmother passed her gift, with God's imparting knowledge to me. A huge problem we have today would be the lost of the "old hymns" of yesterday. I will say the church I attend at present has not left them behind. Yes, we do some of the newer songs and many are quite good. They are always laced with hymns from the pass. I also do arrangements and anthems bringing new and old together. I have subscribed and I want to follow.
If a church with such beautiful singing was close to where I live (Perth, Western Australia) I would go along just to enjoy the music. I'm sure their teachings are Biblical as well.
you can be. however I would like to ask you why you want to be a Mennonite? it is not a bad thing there are very noble reasons to want to be a part of a church such as the Mennonites. as a Christian first then Mennonite I would be very open to talking to you about this. you can email me at steeldave5195@yahoo.com
Basically where they would disagree is. 1. Baptist believe in eternal security. Where once you are saved you are always saved. Mennonite s believe you can fall away from the faith and turn again to sin. 2. Non conformity: Mennonites believe in a life style and dress that is not Iike the society around them 3. Nonresistance: Mennonites believe it is wrong to serve in military service but would choose to serve in other ways rather than militarily.
This lack of contemporary is what usually scares young people away from church. These lyrics are as great & truthful as any Christian song / hymn. But they can be put into a more modern style of song. I actually can't believe there are still churches (though do see this was 10 years ago) that still haven't gone contemporary (or not by 2013 @ least) I hope that 10 years later church music at that church was upgraded!
I'm curious as to why this hymn is entitled [on this video] as "I Know Not Why" . . . when the actual title of this hymn is "I Know Whom I Have Believed".
Most of the old hymns have two names, a line from the chorus and the first line. I found this confusing when I married an IFB(Independent Fundamental Baptist) Pastor and was responsible for preparing the music. I had come out of Pentacostal churches and they sang very different songs so it took me a long time to learn the old hymns.
I am a church pianist, and I have a question, why don't you all have instrumental accompaniment to your singing? And that is one of my very favorite hymns that you sang, by the way!
Mennonites are usually a Capella....did you know that phrase means "in the chapel"? I personally prefer the human voice without accompaniment. We use a piano in our church because no one can sing...:)
but I'm just curious as to whether the Mennonites think that instruments are not glorifying to God? Because I know that the Old Order Amish didn't believe in playing instruments. A Capella is beautiful, though, as the human voice is so endearing!
I think it's like Charles Spurgeon said when they told him look at this beautiful organ...."it sings it's makers' praise" Spurgeon never accepted musical instruments in worship. I think they are completely unnecessary.
@@Lauren-vd4qe Nothing like making people stand out from the others. And should we be pointing that out? Yeah, let's say all people who sing out of key be hanged.
@@lesliekendall2206 if people are off key they should HUM and not sing; this is what my dad did during worship, he hummed bc he knew he wd throw people off key with his singing. theres no point in having singing that is chaos; wd b like Barney and the choir episode in the andy griffith show...total chaos....
So much like heaven when entire congregation sings. Why a choir? Scripture commands all of us to sing. A choir can not do the singing He commands each of us to do. Thus a choir is not scripturally divine.
scripture commands all of us to sing. however, were you singing 30 seconds ago? 5 hours ago? most likely not. a choir presents something beautiful made of practice that a congregation cannot a congregation all singing is more inspiring to me than a talented choir but I really enjoy music and nowhere do you find a congregation singing complex choir music.
