Hell yeah dude, I’m 15 years old and I fucking love the Runaways. Their legendary. All the new stuff today is shit ngl. I love sandy west and her song that she made when she was in the runaways called Wild Thing. She is such a bad ass.
I filmed this, and became a close friend of Sandy. I love all the kind words. BUT some assholes such Voided Charm obviously didn't know her and have no respect for people who have passed on. Sandy did go through some rough times, but she didn't run around breaking people's arms! That was a dark phase she got sucked into, and got out of. The Sandy I knew and loved for the last 15 yrs of her life had a heart of gold. She loved her friends, family and fans. Any negative comments clearly come from miserable people who didn't know her. Great drummer, singer, guitar player and friend period.
Thank You Jerry for bringing this to my attention about the negative comments. sometimes, it's hard to keep up with all the comments people post. unfortunately, some negative commets slip through the cracks. My channel has around two million views so I get flooded with comments everyday. Sandy was loved and still is loved by many including myself. I will NOT tolerate ANY negative comments about Sandy. Take this as a WARNING. If you post any negative comments about Sandy, You will BANNED. Thank You again Jerry for bringing this to my Attention. Jettigre*
TheJerrybomb909 i didn't know her but i respect her... i think the runaways did amazing things and they were so brave cause they rocked on 70s and in that moment rock was "for men". I don't care if i didn't know her.. i would've liked to be there when she was sick and find the way to help her 😥
Jettigre1 why people say negative things about Sandy? they didn't know her!.. i didn't know her too! but i don't talk about her personality or things about her that i don't know!
I drove around with two other bandmates looking for Sandy's house, alas she was becoming a rock star. I had the pleasure of telling her me and the Clairol twins were looking for her in Costa Mesa. She had a good giggle about that. A real tragedy she really never got the recognition for her contribution. Gone way way too soon.
I got a poster of The Runaways a couple weeks ago because I thought Sandy West had a pretty smile. Never heard of the band before. I’ve been jamming to the music this evening and reading up and watching videos about these ladies and the band, it’s so cool! Even in her later years, Sandy West was so pretty. Rest in Peace, Sandy!
One of the best all-around rock drummers of all time. Period. Man or woman, doesn't matter. At 16 years old Sandy West was a more proficient, naturally gifted rock drummer than most of the male drummers in the big-time rock bands of that time period. Sandy literally bled rock drumming, her timing unbelievable and her choices smart. Sandy West's drumming was seemingly effortless, and that's a gift that you seldom see in most rock drummers, or musicians in-general...I hope that more and more young musicians continue to discover Sandy West, because she is EASILY the most underrated rock drummer of all-time...R.I.P.
Such a tragic figure in Rock N Roll, like so many young girls exploited by Hollywood. To bad she couldn't find peace while alive. A terrific teenage drummer and person, destroyed by cigarettes when very young, that are still legal. So sad that the Runaways broke up, and she couldn't survive to have a great future in music like Lita Ford and Joan Jett.
Thank you so much for posting this. This brought me to tears. My gf knew them personally way back in the late 70's, and she filled me in with all the info, me being 28 and not very familiar with the band. She said Sandy truly was very kind and warm and cool! The best female drummer of all time, on top of that! You go Sandy!
Omg 4:00 to 4:40 this melted my heart and made so nostalgic for just imagining that old days...I love them so much. Rest In Peace, Sandy, but forever with us!❤️🤘
Thanks for posting this. I knew her before she was in the Runaways and she was always just a nice person. I was sad to hear later on about her struggles. RIP.
I stumbled onto this while looking for something else and I felt like "she's BACK!" Irrational, but it was a great feeling. Sandy would have made it like Joan and Lita have. Thank you and the Gods That Be for having posted this recording of Sandy.
She was a true pioneer because she was a true master of our craft (drumming). The Runaways were for real, all excellent musicians and they set the tone for the all female bands that would come later.
Thanks Jettigre for posting.Sandy was a very special person and I love The Runaways but I must admit she's the best drummer I have ever heard and I have been listening to them all of my life.
Please do so JERRY. People want more but this is all I have. Can't wait Jerry and again THANK YOU for allowing me to upload this and keeping it on youtube !!!! Kind Regards, Donnie aka Jettigre
Today would the birthday of the best female drummer of all time. I wanted to say that I still admire this woman, she was beautiful and perfect. Sometimes I lay in my bed regretting me:'' Why was I born in this generation''?I wanted to be born in the 60s or the 70s, for to watch one show of the most amazing women in the world, the queens of Rock 'N Roll. And Today is a sad day for me because it is the birthday of Sandy and unfortunately she's not here anymore :/
I couldn't have said it better, a sweeter person you could never meet, she'd be sitting having a drink, someone would come over, oh wow your "Sandy West" please can I have your autograph, I promise you never ever did she say no, it was always sure and she'd make them feel so special, she was one amazing person, fabulous on the drums and man could she ever sing when she got out front ppl were blown away cause man she so "Rocked" she'd have been huge had she gotten the chance!! love you San 4ever
Oops, received an error message and my message posted twice.. grrr! Anyhoo, very cool interview with Sandy, thank you. It's a shame we lost her way too soon. Altho the Runaways had short lived fame, I firmly believe they paved the way for MANY awesome female rockers. Heard an interview with Cherie not long ago saying that her and Joan would love to have a Runaways reunion but it couldn't ever possible be the same without their beloved band member. Along with their fanbase, the music lives on.
its sad Sandy and Cherie never got big lke joan jett and lita ford did but Sandy was one of rock' n' roll's greatest drummers R.I.P Sandy, you are one of my biggest influences as a female drummer myself
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!! :) Feels as if I'm right there on the roof too! Thanks for posting this...it's absolutely priceless footage! So glad Jerry made this historic keepsake! :D
This is amazing. Is there more? Thanks so much for posting it. Heartbreaking that Sandy could not be here to see the band she co-created get its due in the mainstream...
I have this and a bunch more footage first generation. So I will be posting segments of interview's, Sandy playing live and especially the interview I did w/ Sandy and Cherie, and Jake making his debut at 5 yrs old! If you guys have seen that photo I took of Sandy & Cherie in their bikini's the interview was done the same day.
So cool, had no idea Sandy was from Huntington, Bch. I was raised in the Long Beach/Signal Hill area where back in the day (Sandy's time and myself) the downtown area was like a ghost town, no one around and not much to do... with the exception of the music arena. For entertainment we either hung at the beach, had parties AND no fail I'd have a Saturday night ticket for that arena as long as it was a rock band such as Pink Floyd, ZZ, Heart, Alice C.. etc. Huge list! Super fun times :-)
One of the best and most dedicated drummers of all time. I don't understand why other groups (including former Runaways) did jump at the chance to work with her.
@ILOVEKEETS - That's not entirely true. Lita got the band back together in 1998. Cherie even confirmed this in a recent interview. Lita was willing to do a RUNAWAYS reunion & they even went back into the studio in 1998. What happen is that Kenny Laguna ( Joan Jett's - Manager ) stepped in and was trying to control & manage The Reunion along with Blackheart Records & Lita , Jackie & Sandy did not agree with Joan's decision to bring in Kenny Laguna.
@kkgetaway, it's too bad that Sandy's band didn't make it big. But still even though I never cared for the song Wildthing. I love to hear her sing it. She was so tough.
Is there any more of this footage that can be posted as the end of the video hints at more segments? Also do you have any other videos that can be posted of sandy?
