Zeff doesn't even lie to Sanji about the food. There's the two sacks, and he straight up says "This is all the food," and throws the one at Sanji. We assume he's talking about both bags, but upon rewatching you can tell he just means the one.

For curiosity purposes: The use of fish skin to treat wounds is relatively common, at least here in Brazil(as far as I know). It has anti-inflammatory properties and apparently reduces pain.

I think what makes Zoro's "you're my captain" scene hit so hard is the focus in this episode on the hardships of making the right calls as a captain and Luffy's total unwillingness to stand in the way of someone's dream. We knew that this fight with sexy dracula was a cornerstone of Zoro's dream and all he had to tell Luffy was "i need to do this" for him to be fully on his side. The "you're my captain" scene does such a great job of showing us the "this guy fucking gets it" relationship that Zoro has developed with Luffy, it's just really sweet.

When Sanji was saying goodbye to Zeff it wasn’t about the planet being too big to get back(it’s more like 3-5 times the size of Earth than the size of the Sun). Once you enter the Grandline returning to any of the Blue’s is very hard for anyone other than the people working for the World Goverment and a handful of others. That’s assuming you survive long enough to try and go back. Sanji is saying goodbye knowing there’s a very good chance he’ll never see Zeff again.

The 3-5 times the sun of the earth estimate is based on travel times, which is intensely unreliable with Grand Line currents potentially speeding ships up but non-straight lines potentially slowing them down. The size of the Sun estimates are much more reliable. They're based on the on-panel size of Alabasta (~Austraila), corroborated by the size of Wano (~Africa minimum) based on statements taken literally. However, neither are official; both are fan-estimates. We wait for Oda to give an official planet size, we may find out the planet is not any larger than earth and all the signs we see are actually just inconsistencies and hyperbole. There are reasons why you might not like the size of the Sun estimate; but I think it's better to say "we don't know" than 3-5 times the size of the earth, the latter estimate is just bad. In any case, the Grand Line being one-way has nothing to do with the size of the planet, it's about the Calm Belt.

@@rasenganmaster101 The ocean and sky aren't even that large (by direct statements anyway); our earth's ocean is 10km deep in some places. No estimate of the one piece earth's size I know of relies on those dimensions anyway. The hyperbole I'm referring to is in Wano. The arrows, literally translated, go 1000 ri (4000 km). But there's a good chance it's actually just an idiom for "very far", indeed that's how Viz translates it. Alabasta's size is based on the width of its river, which I suppose could be hyperbole too but that's much more of a stretch, especially with the surrounding context.

the live action set up zeff’s backstory the way it was intended in the manga. in the anime, they decided to have zeff lose his leg saving sanji from the ship before they got stranded, and had them in the island for less amount of days because it was too dark.

Not really surprised though, that's how it often was in Japanese ent when i watched their tv shows not long ago😕 i love One Piece's story but a lot of Oda and Toei's "humor" and "gags" are really not it, and it's so weird how instead of toning down the perv trope he actually made it worse going on.

Loving how this show has grown on y'all. I used to scoff at One Piece and it's insane episode count but the Tolkien-level world building and insanely likeable characters finally hooked me and I devoured it during the first year of lockdown. I still can't in good conscious tell anyone to watch the anime (watch a supercut or read the manga) but this show really captured the spirit of these characters ❤

The point of the fight with Arlong was to show a villain who can go toe to toe with Luffy... and to show Nami's nature. Despite her betrayal, her actions saved Luffy's life, she knew the only way to keep him safe was to wave the map in front of Arlong with a bold "mission accomplished" attitude... she was keeping the Straw Hats safe. The thing is that there's only few pirates that survive the Grand Line and live to tell the tale. That's how vicious it is. Imagine meeting people as strong as Mihawk but is ready to kill you. Hence, people always assume it's a ride or die type of voyage and that there is a big possibility they would never return again alive.

Repost from the uncut version of the vid. I saw a reddit post that calculated the OP world to be 2.7 times ours. Also when it comes to Sanji coming back. You gotta realize they are setting off to a place (the Grand Line) where logic and even physics have no barring. And on the most dangerous adventure in the history of their world. So the likelihood of Sanji returning is little to none. Along with the Sea Kings/Beasts, like the one that took Shanks' arm (which would be considered tiny compared to others in the series) and other pirates like the 7 Warlords. The world of One Piece is incredibly dangerous and brutal to match

Fish skin is a real thing. It prevents scaring, it’s anti inflammatory and anti-bacterial, great for burns and ulcers. It pretty much acts as a second skin. Granted some fishes are better than others for this.

In regards to the Luffy X Garp dynamic. It is roughly equivalent to a Chief of Police finding out his grandson declared he is going to run and lead a vicious cartel. So obviously you are going to do your best to stop that because you know it ends up in execution or prison and you will likely have to be involved in the arrest.

Once you enter the Grand Line, outside of very few exceptions, you can't really leave it, unless you circumnavigate the entire globe. So Sanji would very likely not see Zeff again for a very long time.

Its a goodbye for now, but also real goodbye they were not separated for a long time since they met each others so its not easy for Sanji to just left, he has nowhere else to go until he met Lufy an the crew, the journey is not easy they don't know that if they will see each other again thats why he say he will never forget him. And there is thousands episodes and many episodes after Sanji left, since then, thats the last time he saw Zeff.

Ironically enough, the Zoro moments that hit Sean and Morgan the most were the moments that were the least altered from the manga/anime. I think they'd enjoy his characterization more in the source, since he's not the stoic/edgy guy early in the story. While he does have a few of those moments, he's more the bullheaded tough guy type, and he definitely speaks in tones other than "muted E-boy".

People have high balled the size of the One Piece planet as being the size of our sun, because of lines talking about there being "countless islands" in this world. But that would mean that they are sailing well over 155 mph which is never implied in any way. And that is low balling the necessary speed, it's probably much closer to over 300 mph. Given the speed at which they made it half way around their world It's more likely that their world is twice the circumference of our earth.

The layout of the world was briefly explained in episode 2 I believe but it is a forgettable detail tbh. The Redline is a strip of land that circles the globe like a ring, and it's VERY TALL. Think of it as a start/finish line for a race track, but it's as high as a mountain, and the Grandline is the actual track that runs through it. Crossing the Redline is a big deal, and it's very hard to go back once crossed, just to add insult to injury after Zeff and Sanji's goodbye 😊 Also I agree, the fight between Luffy and Arlong here was very weak. One of the only moments that made me kinda cringe a little. In the anime Luffy is so much more creative and capable as a fighter lol, but I know CGI stretching is not an easy task. I hope they do better in future seasons

I guess it was hard for them to get very creative with the rubber powers because of the CGI they have in this show that isn't very good TBH. I think the only one that was well done was that sea monster from ep 2. Other than that the CGI is quite jarring, especially with Luffy's powers. The anime does get a lot more creative with it. Maybe season 2's bigger budget will improve that.

I keep seeing people say that the Blue Seas is so much bigger than Earth, but I've never seen anyone show their work on how they came to that conclusion. And it definitely wouldn't be sun-sized, because that much mass would turn it into a sun by sheer force of gravity.

That's hardly comparable. He didn't eat solid food, but he still had plenty of nutrients going into his body.
