It's because they bet a lot of their own national pride on Eurovision Contest. But it's going to shrink a lot in the future years, and eventually it will be reduced to Northwestern European countries (+Israel, since this one wants to claim to be very European, while being Middle Eastern). I don't think that in 5/10 years any Southern or Eastern European country (maybe apart from Georgia) will be participating in ESC. ESC will really need Australia and New Zealand then to remain relevant.
Ok, I have absolutely nothing against Conchita, I think she's talented and her song was very good. But this song right here is much better. Sweden deserved to win.

Eric Janssen I don't know what it is, I just really like it, and her voice. And I'm not surprised in the least because Sweden is usually very good at Eurovision.

This should have won. She travelled my mind while listening to her.. Austria wanted to bring some noise with the whole boy/girl thing. Whatever guys...The message has been sent and this won't end up good for us, we lost our common sense, our deep thinking into things, we lost our pride of what we made and what we turned out to be in the end. Sorry, but in my opinion there was not a single memorable song in the 2016 setup. I can't even remember the winning entry anymore. From the 2014 set I still know at least 15 songs. 2014 was an incredible lineup.

Quality songs need to be promoted more. Not Alone is repetitive, boring and totally unoriginal. On the other hand Sweden's song is strong, well performed and meaningful. Sweden deserves to win! +12 by me.
You're so contradicting with yr analysis. Not Alone is in fact a very original, rich composition of music. U obviously have no idea of music composition or any skills of it. The fact that u say Not Alone is repetative, shows up yr musically unprofessional comment. Maybe u just don't get it yrself that u have a problem with the lyrics & not the song or the performance.

When I found out this was the fave to win, I was shocked, songs like this have been done time and time again, yeah she had a great voice but it was hardly anything wow.
