FYI future 6 Jaw buyers: I recently bought a Sanou/CME 6” 6 Jaw and regret it. I’ve got two other Sanou/CME chucks (both 6”, one 4 Jaw scroll and the other is the 3 Jaw “set true”) and they are both decent for the money. However, the 6” 6 Jaw is just not worth the money. At least the one I got is not able to hold even .001” repeatability on same diameter material and the jaws are not concentric on the axial as the runout grows rapidly as you move away from the jaws. I converted the chuck to a front mount (comes as a rear mount) so I cannot return it. Ended up buying the Shars 6” 6 Jaws and it’s VERY nice for the money. Cry once is my advice.
I ordered the 6" version of this yesterday on Amazon. I'll be using your video as a step-by-step for prepping it for use. If it's as repeatable as yours, I'll be happy as a puppy with 2 peckers.
They look like nice chucks. Interesting idea putting a bit of degreaser in a plastic bag, shame it didn't work :) I tend to use washing powder in my ultrasonic, works for most things.
Nice chuck on my wish list. I managed to get my 4 jaw to about 0.006mm, first i tried the backplate in the 3 posible positions to see which was best measuring on the seating index, then before final tightening knocked into best place then i did the same when mounting the chuck to the backplate in every position to get the minimum runout, i never touched the index on either chuck or backplate other than a debur with scotchbrite. The actual spindle runout is about 0.009 to 0.011 depending on what i measured with. After about a couple of dozen tries i got it pretty good for what it is, I then stamped everything to get it back to that although i still need to use a hammer before final tightning every time but once in the ballpark its like alining a part in a 4 jaw but with a lead hammer instead of chuck key. I didn't think you could get less runout than your spindle but you can, offsetting it the oposite way, i was lucky, cheers Derek
Yes some did for sure, I dont think it was such a good idea as there are still signs of it. when I clean it and service it next I think I will just oil it.
Hi Lance,a question for you if i may, just got my 54 H Ferguson running after 2 yrs,put a test light from the positive side of the battery to the alternator battery post, tester does not light, when i touch the alt body it lights? any thoughts on this? thanks Steve from Cape Breton
@@BundyBearsShed Itook the positive side battery cable off with the motor running and it stayed running,i know you shouldn't do that ,but with thecable off she kept agoing no different
Quite a lot grease... I hope you got proper chuck cover on your lathe. It's gonna be interesting when you turn first time your lathe on with high speed. 🤣
