They dont get their powers from the union... they get them from state constitutions... constitutions which make it very hard to prosecute officers while on duty by giving them immunity... and internal affairs investigations will often find the officer was reasonable in their actions. The union just makes sure that if the cop did break the law blatantly, and was terminated lawfully.. that the officer will get their job back with back pay.

Those deputies superiors need to come under investigation too!! That kind of treatment of citizens needs to be stamped out. I also find the frequent use of foul langage by police-officers wrong. She did stop in the middle of the road, never a good tactic. If she was turning right, one could safely assume she was waiting for the bikes to pass before turning but she never indicated that was her intention to others on the road by using her turn signal. The cop was not wrong in stopping to ask her why she was stopped, but he was wrong in how he asked her by using profanity. He obviously hates female Asian drivers (who doesn’t) but everything he did was wrong. What is even more disturbing is that the female deputy jumped into the fray as if Mongo needed help subduing this tiny woman.

Each officer should be required to get 'malpractice" insurance, like doctors. However, if their insurance goes up, their pay does not and they have to cover the increased premiums themselves. Bad cops will eventually not be able to afford to be cops (and you can be sure that insurance company's will follow them from job to job so they won't escape scrutiny at new jobs, as currently happens)! Plus, they should not be allowed to quit or retire while under investigation!

My father was a young police reporter in the late 1940's, and he told me of the widespread corruption by a lot of the cops back then. Fast forward to 1968 when his car was stolen, and then recovered in NY City. We drove from Ct, I was 12 at the time, and then he was told at the precinct where he needed someone to sign off on release of car that a "contribution" was needed. He didn't have enough money on hand, and he never got the car back.
So... I'm on my way to an emergency situation that requires lights and sirens... but this car (which isn't t impeding me in any way) stopped, so I could speed by... I better get out and write a ticket.

The problem with abusive cops is that they are NOT ACCOUNTABLE. Every city should have an independent citizens panel to investigate and rule on whether cops like this should be FIRED. Letting police departments investigate their own abuses is INSANE BUT NORMAL in the U.S. Cops like this nearly always get to keep their jobs. FIRE THEM!
The problem with independent citizens panels is that they don’t have law enforcement experience. If the panel was made up of lawyers, law enforcement experts, and use of force experts it would make sense. But a bunch of people who have no idea what the laws are and what officers are allowed to do according to the CCP, will make their judgements based on feelings versus what that actual law allows. However, it appears this officer did use excessive force in this situation but I would have to review more of the evidence, body camera, reports etc to make a complete judgement.

It doesn't take much. Cops were out tuning-up citizens with impunity whenever they felt disrespected. Now they're their own worst enemy. Let me just start by saying I'm extremely blessed. I have 3 wonderful boys who do well. I'm an Army veteran, well educated, was a cop for several years, and went back into the aviation industry. I used to be a cop is something I rarely say anymore. It sickens me anymore though, but I can promise you there are some really great people in law enforcement. People who honestly have their citizens at heart, and really believe in are constitution. But there far and few anymore. It's a hard job for sure, but in this day and age like the judicial system, the greater part of them are a joke. And to deny it your either ignorant or just full of it. Something needs to change.

Then you need to watch other videos to give you a balanced perspective. There are MILLIONS of interactions between the public and the police each year, and thankfully only a very small percentage of those involve despicable actions like this. I’ve watched hundreds if videos of cops risking their lives to try to keep the public safe. I’m very glad bad cops get exposed, but to extrapolate from that that there are no hero cops or even that all cops are bad (as some people actually say) is extremely faulty logic. Video reveals both ends of the spectrum. It’s up to us as citizens to be full informed so we can understand the extent of societal problems in proper perspective.
