Jackson Goldstone is heading into his first season in the Elite ranks of Downhill after an electric couple of years battling it out in the Juniors and laying down times which would have him frequenting the Elite Top 10. With a new Santa Cruz V10 under him and the support of the Syndicate at his back, Jackson has already been claiming victories at races with stacked start lists across New Zealand and Australia all summer. Neil caught up with him at the Lourdes ‪@uci_mtbworldseries‬ Test event to find out about the new bike!
Rider Info: Having just moved up to Elites from the Junior ranks, Jackson has a fairly light frame and stands at roughly 5'10" tall, opting for a medium-sized frame. Mechanics state he used to be harsh on bike parts but has improved loads, smoothing his riding style.
Frame: Santa Cruz V10.8 (M) - Mixed wheel size (8th frame iteration of this model)
Fork: Fox 40 Factory - 71psi w/ 4 volume spacers
Shock: Fox DHX2 Factory - 475lbs Spring
Wheelset: Santa Cruz Reserve Carbon Wheelset on Chris King hubs
Rear Tyre: Maxxis Minion DHR II 27.5x2.4wt 3C DH Casing at 25psi
Front Tyre: Maxxis Assegai 29er Test Pilot Compound (Presumably DH Casing) at 23psi
Brakes: Shimano Saint M820 Calipers / Shimano XTR M9100 Levers
Rotors: Shimano Icetech Freeza Rotors 203mm f/r
Handlebar: Burgtec Ride Wide Alloy DH Bar - 30 Rise - 35mm Clamp - 785mm Width

Finishing touches: Jackson runs the adjustable headset cups in the middle setting, giving a reach of 452mm. A small fender sits between the seat-stays to protect the shock from mud off of the rear wheel. Some stock-looking chain damping will help with noise and paintwork on the drive side chainstay and some sticky-backed velcro on the brake caliper helps to quieten any pad rattle that may happen. They may also help with mud collection around the pad springs on particularly horrible days, but the jury is out on that one!

During the Lourdes test event I asked Lyle why Jackson ride XTR levers and Saint calipers. He answered Jackson has a better feeling with XTR lever than Saint and the Saint caliper are more stiffer than XTR ones.

Never seen anyone with their bars rolled that far forward. He is also one of the fastest riders in the world right now, if not the fastest when hes on fire. He may be onto something.

Mine are rolled quite a bit forward as well to give a more aggressive stance on the bike, elbows out. Not the most comfy position on longer rides but great for attacking technical terrain.

Other than the new frame, all the components are 10 years old. Kinda curious when shimano will update their saint group. I will say though, it is the best and most reliable group in existence.

My friend put this bike together for his son and before I knew it he was done ru-vid.comUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L When the son came to put it together he was surprised to see it was already done. All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.
