In honor of hitting 2,000 subscribers on the channel, here's another rare sought after video from my archive.
On August 30, 1992, 35 years to the day after she was retired, the Santa Fe 3751 pulled 12 cars of Santa Fe employees, friends and family on a journey of 4600 miles into the past.
From Hobart to Corwith... through Cajon Pass... up Edelstein Hill... Santa Fe cameras recorded magnificent, one-of-a-kind shots of the 3751 as she returned to the high iron.
Ride along with crew members in the cab. Listen as they recall the days they pushed this Baldwin 4-8-4 to the limit. See exclusive interviews with the men who took the 3751 on the longest ride of her life.
Material from Symphony in Steam was used in There Goes A Train (1994), Train Adventure's For Kids (1994), I Love Toy Trains Part 3 (1994) & God Bless The Santa Fe (1995).
This program was originally produced by the Santa Fe Railroad Audio & Video Department, with this particular program having been out of print/unavailable for 31 years. Nickel Plated Productions does not lay claim to the ownership/copyright of this program. Ownership/copyright belongs to the Santa Fe Railroad. This has been uploaded in an effort to preserve its historical contents.

LOL I GOT TO CLEAN A CARBON CLINKER ON 3751 s FIRE BOX FLOOR WHILE THE BOILER WAS HOT IN KANSAS CITY!! THE DESIGNATED ENGINEERS WERE MAX (MAD DOG) SMITH, RETIRED AIR BRAKE SUPERVISOR, AND RUFUS KING RETIRED ROAD FOREMAN OF ENGINES! IT WAS A PLEASURE AND HONOR TO HAVE WORKED WITH THESE TWO GUYS BEFORE AND AFTER THEIR RETIREMENTS! KEEP THEM ROLLING BROTHERS!!

Late August and Mid September 1992, Santa Fe 4-8-4 #3751 pulls the 1st Employee Appreciation Special. The journey is amazing, it ran from Los Angeles, California to Chicago, Illinois and return over the mountains. The locomotive spent 18 days and 17 nights.

Having been next to this amazing 4-8-4 a few days ago in Los Angeles, I always was curious how this trip to Chicago and back in 1992 went for 3751! This amazing production definitely answers that question! Thanks for uploading this video Nickel plated Productions! 3751 at 96 years old is still ALIVE and STEAMING!! This "Legendary Cheering Railfan" definitely enjoyed this video! :)

I always knew that parts of this video were used in There Goes A Train (which I used to watch as a kid as well) but if there is any footage of the 4-8-4 in action, that would be quite a treasure if anyone finds it.

I wondered where There goes a train used the footage of Santa Fe 3751 from. I always wanted to see the footage of the employee train in Hobart yard. I never saw this as a child.

It all comes together thanks to the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. Many footages used in our childhood memories in one video. Thanks to my most favorite fallen flag railroad featuring my 4th most favorite steam locomotive.

Not to mention Amtrak Genesis 801 was in There Goes A Train as well. Speaking of 801, that diesel was sold to LTEX Rail in 2019 and just last year it was recently sent to Relco Locomotives/Wabtec Albia in Iowa where it’s currently being rebuilt and repainted in LTEX colors.

This was also 3751’s last excursion with the ATSF 5-chime freight whistle. The next excursion after the 1992 Super Chief in August and September of 1992, was the 1995 Riverside Orange Blossom Festival in April of 1995 was 3751’s first excursion with the ATSF 6-chime passenger whistle that 3751 currently has now.

@@zacharycalgher3978 Exactly right on that, Zachery. While I am naturally being used to her modern day 6 chime..... her 5 chime will always be the best for me on 3751. :) Especially when it was used the best on her 1992 trip. ^^

@@jimmyhook4852 I agree. It would be like the blast from the past if the 3751 had the old screeching 5 chime again, just like how it did back in the early 90s.

I really thought the folks of Santa Fe would also film 3751 meeting CHICO'S fleet of intermodal hotahots in both directions. Especially the following: Q-NYLA/Q-LANY 199/991.

I do have footage of OHCR & TVRM that can be found in "Steamin' in '91, which is on the Channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZYbdPUSRVp0.html I also have Strasburg footage, which is also on the channel as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uNsqtMjizbo.html Beyond that, I do have videos in my Archive that cover tourist operations such as Steamtown, Gettysburg & Mid Continent (Produced by Berkshire Productions in 1989 & 1990). But, I do not have any plans to upload said shows to the channel whatsoever (as they are currently available for sale on DVD & Blu-Ray & are not lost media.)
