Ingredients:
1kg chicken, cut into small pieces
2 medium onions, chopped
3-4 garlic cloves, minced
1 inch ginger, grated
2-3 medium tomatoes, chopped
2 green chilies, slit
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Water
Fresh cilantro leaves, chopped (for garnish)
Directions:
Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Fry until they start to splutter.
Add onions, ginger, and garlic, and sauté until onions turn translucent.
Add tomatoes and green chilies, and cook until tomatoes are soft and mushy.
Add the remaining turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a minute.
Add chicken pieces to the gravy and mix well.
Add 2-3 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
Cover the pan and let it cook for 20-25 minutes on low heat or until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
Garnish with cilantro leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
To make the dish a little spicier, you can increase the amount of red chili powder used in the recipe. Children should always be supervised while cooking to ensure their safety and to help them learn basic cooking techniques.
