This was written by Rob Thomas about his wife (the lady in the window). He originally wasn’t supposed to sing on it, but when Santana heard the demo, he insisted Rob sing on it

A little trivia - This song was the last number one of the 20th century and the first number one of the 21st. It's really hard to believe that it's already been 20 years! Rob Thomas has some awesome songs with his group, Matchbox 20. "Push" and "3AM" are a couple that you should check out

Absolutely. They get hate on tv shows for some reason but I will never understand it. Beautiful band, especially in their earlier years. Saw them live and it was a spiritual experience 😅

Hey Guys, I am a west coast Canadian. This song, Smooth, was first published in 1999. It not only represents the amazing skills of a master musician but also represents a way of life for not only Black/Latinos in Las Angeles but also the entire west coast of North America. Ask someone from New York what do they do and their answer will typically be I'm a Doctor or I'm a Teacher or I'm a Mechanic ... but ... if you ask a west coaster the same question ... What do you do? ... they will answer with ... I save lives, or I educate, or I save history. It's a different world here.

Santana is top 5 for me and top 2 in terms of albumns purchased. I got to go to his Supernatural tour in the early 2000's. He is fantastic and surrounds himself with the very best musicians.

You're completely right about his music instantly putting you in a mood. When you read the comments you noticed that everyone has a different favorite from the album Supernatural. That's why you should listen to the whole albumn (even if you don't react to it), it's amazing. Everlast is overlooked, but 'put your lights on' is an amazing song.

This song is great. Santana also mentors some younger performers. He and Rob Thomas the person singing both performed with this young guitar protégé when he was 10. You should check out both videos on his channel. The kid's name is Taj Farrant and he will blow you away.

Santa's is definitely a G.O.A.T. I saw him in 2019 at the House of Blues in Las Vegas at least 4 times. Locals could get tickets for $50. And on FB The House of Blues has drawings for tickets. I won twice. Just pick them up at the Box Office. He's fantastic! Can't wait to see him in 2021.

If you like the singer’s voice, check out his band Matchbox 20. Very popular in the 90’s. Santana has been making music since the late 60’s. Take some blues, Caribbean and African and Latin music stir it up and enjoy. Another band worth a look is Los Lonely Boys, mainly the song Heaven. P&L.

One of the five living Masters of guitar ; Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour and Jeff Beck. All are now over 70 but unsurpassed. There are a lot of great younger guitarists (Robert Cray, Jimmy Vaughn, Derek Trucks, Ian Moss (Australian, from Cold Chisel, check them out, they are Australia's finest), Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Joe Bonamassa etc) but they don't yet eclipse the Masters.

Another Guitar king JIMMY HENDRIX. Bar none...along w/Slash, Santana plus a few more Want 2 hear 2 guys who started a revolution w/the Cellos. They r called The 2 Cellos. Elton John heard them on line and immediately signed them under his label. That quick. Just after 1 video Try THUNDERSTRUCK. THE SHOW MUST GO ON. WHOLE LOT OF LOVE. WITH OR WITHOUT YOU. TEEN SPIRIT (the song that got them famous). All their songs r just that good. Basically went on a 7 year world tour after travelling w/Elton John Soooo good. I was hooked after hearing them Fr across the waters Canada 🇨🇦 🐥🐥🐥hugs 2 ALL

Not a word about Rob Thomas? He wrote this with Itaal Shur. Santana had not had a hit since '82 and the record label was teaming him up with current artists to bring in new fans. It worked this song was #1 Billboard for 12 weeks. Loved Santana since Tango in '69 and Smooth wouldn't big without him but definitely sad you ignored Thomas and knew nothing about the creation of the song. Credit were credit is due.

I absolutely LOVE Carlos Santana and his 20 year old Supernatural album is PHENOMENAL!!! Please check out Maria, Maria; Corazon Espinado; and the Calling which is a collaboration with Eric Clapton! The whole album is FIRE!
