That sentence about Zach Wheeler, Matt Harvey and the other young pitching prospects... Boy how 8 years flew! Anyway, I remember this game being one of the very few Mets games that year I watched from beginning to end. I was jumping for joy when he got the final out, and remember my mind being thrown in cold water with Terry's comments post-game. Prophetic for sure.

I always took Terry Collins' expression in the 9th and after the no-hitter to be both stoic happiness and worry. Letting Santana go for it meant so much to the club and the fans, but he knew that it had a terrible chance of impacting Santana long term, which it did. If this was a 2-0 game, I think there's a very good chance he would have taken out Johan.

Not relevant. The league rules did not allow replay review on that call at that time, and you still can't challenge fair/foul on balls in play.

@JCT no such thing as if. It didn't exist so it counts. Just like there was no replay in the 1998 Jets season that helped the Jets beat Seattle on bad call. There are many games throughout sports history that had this happen so quit crying about this 1 game

Fair and foul ball should be respective to where on the foul line it hits. It looks like it hit the side that is towards foul territory from the Beltran foul ball, so it should stay a foul ball!

@@kevincarmack581 The umpires ruled it a foul ball. The rules for that game did not allow for a challenge, so ultimately no opinion but that of the ump on the field matters. Beltran can't retroactively be awarded a single 10 years later just because the rules changed. The box score will always read 0 R, 0 H for St. Louis. To this day you still cannot challenge fair or foul on a ball in play. The first call by the umpire is the legal ruling, even if they're wrong.

Watched this it was a friday and I told my dad "I dont wanna say it but I think its gonna happen" and he just kept saying "oh god here we go" and by the 8th inning I just couldnt stop screaming.... It may not be a no hitter in a replay world of 2024 but as a Met fan I WILL TAKE WHAT I CAN GET AND THAT FOUL LINE WAS THICKER THAN USUAL I AM STILL INVESTIGATING!!
