It depends, there are nice touristy bits and dangerous dirty bits like in most capital cities. Just gotta keep your wits about you that's all, be street smart. Don't go around flashing expensive gadgets. Don't leave stuff unattended. Take your pictures and/or videos, then quickly put them back into your backpack/bag or whatever. Also for peace of mind, don't carry more money than what you plan on using in a day, so if the worst happens, you are ok with losing it and not fighting for it (that's when tragedies happen). Remember, no material thing is worth your life, it will hurt for a while, but you will get over it and it will just be an anecdote.

It is highly polluted, it is grey, without colour, depressing, serious, dull, without flavour or soul or friendliness or warmth. Opposite to Colombia.

@@silkbuttons Santiago's smog problem is well known mainly due to it's location in the valley and surrounded by hills and the Andes, and Chile is hardly grey or depressing or dull or lacking warmth - LOL. And this can easily be seen in this video. Not to mention a lot of Colombians now call Santiago and Chile their home. It's not like the rest of Latin America and Colombia fare any better when it comes to certain annoyances and pollution and crime.

Nice video. Chile looks clean from what I saw. But I need to see nightlife? Not a fan of cable cars & trolleys that go up and down mountains. I did do Sugar Loaf once. It was enough.
