Thanks for the lovely comment and I'm glad it's what you're looking for! I'll really try and refine things so that the videos are to the point, interesting and useful! Of course the feedback is what steers that.
Adam, my wife and I love watching your videos, you are definitely our favourite bali blogger. Great, interesting and informative information about Sanur which we love. Your use of language and descriptions of Indonesian dishes is refreshing and has inspired us to be more adventurous in October when we return. A request would be for more info/reviews of Indonesian dishes, we have a better understanding of the sides we are served after watching your food reviews. I have been nervous to be very daring in the past but your simple explanations are wonderful. We always have a chuckle as we watch you scoffing down large portions of Susan's meals and drinks.😊 Your new style of info above is fantastic and we look forward to more of the same. Please keep your videos coming as it is always a pleasure when we see you have added a new one to youtube. P.S. Your head is the right size in the above video, we have a large tv and you didn't loom too large in our loungeroom. All the best. Michael and Tracy Whyte.
Thanks so much Michael and Tracy! I will keep reviewing the Indonesian food. I suppose the difficult thing is that most of the good Indonesian food is outside of the Sanur central area. Getting the right balance between accessible food and stuff that’s genuinely adventurous is always going to be the challenge!
Love the new format Adam. Very informative and thanks for sharing your personal history regarding your time in Indonesia. Can't agree more, the Sanur beach path is one of our favourite walks to do while we are there. It's also a reason that we love Sanur because it is nice and quiet and the development hasn't really occurred there like it has in places that you mentioned, which we avoid anyway. We love your dry sense of humour and keep up with your great videos.
Absolutely Fleur. That was the idea... Let's see where it takes us while having one eye on keeping things interesting! Get into the weeds a little bit, but not so much that it is just boring. Sometimes hard to do! 🤣
You hit the nail on the head with your topic segment. Hope Sanur doesn’t change too much. Understand it has to to a certain degree, but it’s our go to place for all the reasons you mentioned.
That was great! Hubby and I really enjoyed it. We do love your food/warung reviews especially when you do local snacks and drinks . Keep up the good work
We so appreciate your vlogs. and can't get enough of them. We check daily for new uploads. Especially the restaurants you show us. We're on a strict diet ATM to lose weight, just so we can put it all back on over there. Our mouths water as we watch you eat most of Sue's dinner and yours, poor Sue 😂🤤 jokes, while we sit there drinking our protein shakes, glutton for punishment. 😂 We've been to Bali many times before but looking forward to revisiting Sanur, as its been 26years sine we were there for our honeymoon. Thanks to you, we have a list of wonderful warungs to visit. Wish other youtubers did as professional prouctions as yours. You create quality footage and very comprehensive, a joy to listen to and watch. Your biggest fans Will and Nicky.
Wow, thanks Will and Nicky for the compliments! I will continue to do my food reviews and eat Susan's food as well as putting out these news videos. 😂 I think you're going to love Sanur. Even though it's been 26 years, it's going to feel familiar, but it's also moved with the times. Food standards have risen, the path along the beach is magnificent and the people are as wonderful as ever. I'm sure every single day of drinking protein shakes is going to be worth it once you indulge yourselves over here.
You do a wonderful job, topic that are relevant, you know what you are talking about, your intent to help peoples journey to be better or more interesting 👏👏👏 just hope the keyboard warriors or the jealous expats don’t put you off. Keep up the good work, thank you 🍻
Thanks! Interesting point about getting trolled. Thankfully I haven't had much of that yet at all, but it's always in the back of my mind because I do know that there are some (a lot) people out there are cynical and jaded. 🤣 Thankfully I'm not one of those yet!
Great video, loved the format. And thank you for sharing so many great warungs and restaurants which I’ve also taken the opportunity to visit over the past year.
Haha. Yeah it can feel like that sometimes. But I’ve always been one to share my favourite places and if that means it becomes overrun… hopefully can still keep our own slice of paradise.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video and all of your videos. I particularly love your restaurant reviews because you explain Indonesian cuisine really well and give an honest and descriptive review of what you're actually tasting and not just saying yum or delicious. I don't have any immediate plans to visit Sanur or Bali but I am very interested in learning more about Indonesian cuisine to cook at home here in Australia but I thoroughly enjoyed this new format as well. Maybe I might just be convinced to go to Bali again. Thank you 👍🏼
Well done with the new format. Please keep up the great work. Agree that Sanur can be a bit dull after visiting numerous times. However we’re returning in December. Cheers from Australia 🎉
Thank you! I think it really depends on what you're on holidays for. Sometimes you want action, late nights out, activities. Sometimes you just need to relax because you've had a tough year. And I guess different people unwind in different ways. Not sure if it's because we're all getting older or not, but I think more and more people are gravitating towards kicking back more and more interspersed with the odd late night out. But I guess that's why we love Bali. There's somewhere for everyone!
Loving this new format, Adam. But I'm thinking a bi-monthly episode like this would be ample, unless you reckon a weekly one is more pertinent. Local and current knowledge of current affairs, events, occurrences and trends can only really be had from folks like you, living and breathing there. Your little segment on your past and experiences over the entirety of Indonesia completes the picture and makes us viewers be more 'involved' with you and your content - it is very much appreciated that you shared them. And as always, your translation of local slang, jargons, terminology and colloquailism makes your content unique in comparison to others'. Keep doing you, Adam... Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for the feedback! I haven't decided how often to do these yet. I think the main factor is going to be how available I am to do them. They require me to be on the spot right at that time and I'm just not always in town to do them. So that will be the biggest factor in consistency, I think. I'll just do what I can and on a schedule that gives enough information without boring people. I'm thinking about talking about Indonesia more broadly as one of my segments, mainly because outside of Bali, Indonesia is such an unknown for most foreigners. And that is so unfortunate because I think the country has so much to offer. Also, I think the language thing is genuinely something people are interested in, but most people don't get past selamat pagi and terima kasih (and maybe satu lagi). Even just basic things like asking for the bill or learning the numbers is a great step.
Yeah I'm so reluctant to give it air time, honestly. But that's not to say you shouldn't go there. Just that I personally don't think the mall is in keeping with the village character of Sanur.
@@SanurDiaries I think you're on the right track!! But yes, of course, at your own pace and time..... Despite your passion showing, I understand and appreciate that these youtube videos are not exactly raking in the big bucks. Nevertheless, I think you ARE reaching a fair few Aussies who love your videos, vlogs, and informational anecdotes about your life in Sanur and its environs.
Love the new format. I visit Sanur 2-3 times a year from Australia. Whilst not there I just enjoy watching any walks or reviews from Sanur. What you don’t get is news or information about what is happening about town, the sort of things that residents of Sanur know. Thinking of permanently moving to Sanur so info about areas to live (probably west of bypass) that have good villas. Also good agents for handling visas. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for the feedback. I definitely think there needs to be more information out there about living here side of living in Sanur because as we know, it's a lot different to simply visiting. You're right, I do need to do a video on the different areas of Sanur and what the pros and cons are from the point of view of a visitor and the point of view of a long-term resident. The visa issue is something I've thought about a lot, but I'm just so out of touch with what is required because my situation is quite unique. I'll keep giving it some thought and try and come up with something that is helpful for people potentially exploring staying in Bali a little bit longer. As far as I know, most people are doing 6 month visas (where you need to do a visa run every 6 months), retirement visas or investment visas.
Awesome video, I love hearing about life in Java. My dream is to venture beyond Bali to other parts of Indonesia, and also do some intensive bahasa studies. Thanks for all your informative videos 😁
I will talk more about life outside Bali for sure. I'm passionate about sharing more about how things are outside of Bali and how similar in many ways it is. If you're keen to visit other parts of Indonesia, the best way to do it is to book a side trip somewhere like Yogyakarta for your first excursion. Or perhaps to Flores to see Komodo Dragons and do incredible snorkelling. Those places are very accessible and not too difficult to navigate. Good hotels, tourist friendly, not scary.
This is a fabulous video! Very informative & interesting - especially coming from someone who is a 'seasoned' Indonesian. I went to Java in the mid 90's & our first stop was Bandung - it was really beautiful back then. Did backpacking through Java, Lombok & Bali staying in hostels. It was a real eye-opener & I will never forget it. Unfortunately, things don't stay the same, which is quite sad. My very first trip to Bali was in Sanur & I am hoping to one day visit again before the news gets out about how good it is! PS. your head looks good on screen, so don't worry. Your kindness shines through.
Thanks for the kind words, Cheryl. I really appreciate it. For someone like yourself who has travelled extensively through Java, your insight into what Indonesia is really about is so valuable. One of the things I'm trying to impart through my videos is that Bali is simply a part of a bigger story which is Indonesia. As fascinating and incredible as Bali is, Indonesia more broadly is a wonderful place with many adventures to be had.
Total junk hated it 😂😂 Just Joking, been watching from the start, I value your honesty no agendas to push information. I really like this format as it's customisable, meaning I would like to see a Warung review and a small Q&A or topical news segment. Your heads kind of big but so is mine so I can live with that 😅😅 One day I would like a review if possible of the St Regis and the Melia Buffett's as I feel from what I've seen and a person I've spoken to it represents unreal value. Keep up the good work Cheers Mark WA
Thanks Mark and thanks for the compliment on my head 🤣 About the buffets, I'm keen to try them all out. I really am. And I probably should go and do that. I probably will in time.
@@SanurDiaries Sounds good mate, hey I'm in Bali for 26 days in November if your free would be good to catch up and eat some local good Warung food if your keen 🤔
Try warung Bellisimo. Best Italian food in Bali and unbelievably cheap. Like carbonara for 35k and beers from 18k. After being in Kuta for 15 years and now Sanur for 2 years ....our only complaint is that generally speaking, everything is more expensive in Sanur.
Yeah I think it's a fair point. I have a love hate relationship with Kuta. Even in this video I said at one point I didn't like and then later on that I did like it. 🤣 I think Kuta is just a little more hectic than Sanur and that's OK. But sometimes you just want to take things a little more slowly. I can imagine a lot of people go to both places when they visit to mix things up a little. Maybe go a little bit wild in Kuta and then into Sanur to kick back. Thanks for the Warung Bellisimo tip. I've been past it a lot and haven't had a strong recommendation until now, so I will have to check it out!
Oh right, what area are you getting stuck in? Around the harbour. That's a nightmare around there and I have friends who travel from up north into Sanur daily and it's a major problem.
Oh that's an interesting aspect I didn't even consider! The great thing about cruise ships is that they are usually well prepared for these sorts of things. I'm sure they'll have a good system in place to allow you to disembark.
Absolutely agree. Can't really think of a more perfect place for a family with a couple of kids, perhaps one in a stroller, walking along the beach front, going for a dip in the safe shallow water and then heading to a nearby cafe for a meal.
@@SanurDiaries mate we love your videos you've done something different on this video which was fantastic you were part of the reason why me and my wife and my kids went to Sanur we loved every bit of it we have booked and we're going again. Please keep changing up things on your video we love it
My career in Australia was a fairly standard office job which came to an end in 2009. In Bandung, it is extremely cheap to live and I wasn't allowed to earn income from a normal job because of visa restrictions. This made that aspect of life quite difficult, but Susan still earned an income through writing jobs. I'm not retired. I still work in Australia from time to time to keep my bank balance ticking over. That's why sometimes my channel will have fewer videos appearing for months at a time.
Warung Odah Perak is already on our list. Jl Cemara Gg 11/2 and I think I know where that is. We arrive for a 5 night stay at Nusa Dua next Tuesday and then we will stay in Sanur. We would love to treat you and Susan for a meal. I have your email so I will message you for a possible date. We will be staying in Jl Duyung. Pardon me but I have missed your Christian name.
