I`m amazed at how little these modern flat panel tv`s have in them circuitry-wise....I worked in a tv repair shop in my youth,back in the mid 1960`s...very different back then!
Thank you for this posting! I was seriously considering buying a new TV. I used strips of 1/8" thick self-adhesive foam on the outside only; I didn't want to risk detaching the circuit boards. My picture is perfect again, thanks to you.
Thank-you very much!!! My 46" Sanyo had the right dark side. Pressed on the IC nothing worked at first. After 4 or 5 true something seemed to pop(?) in place! Still goes dark at first but becomes clear after few minutes and stays. No shims even. Leave well enough alone! You must be a T.V. repairman's worst nightmare!! Again. thank you!!!!
I would just like to let you know how helpful and indispensable these videos are. You seem very knowledgeable in this field and do a wonderful job explaining the underlying causes and how to fix them. A few days ago I picked up a used 48" Sanyo TV and shortly after turning it on, it developed a black bar on the top 1/4 of the screen that seemed to go away after I put a clamp on the bezel and tightened it down slightly. At first, I thought it was bricked until I researched the problem online and found your videos. Now, I will be taking your advice and looking into the T CON bonding TAB very soon.

I will be implementing this fix as yours is "only" the second video I've seen with a diagnosis of this sort of problem. More word NEEDS to get out about the TAB problem because MANY repair shops/services DON'T Know how easy this is to fix!
I tried this with my 46" sanyo and it worked. Thank you very much. Mine had a dozen of those strips though and I only put the rubber strips on the top part but hasn't failed me yet!!!!
Dynex 38" doing the same thing. We could press the left corner and it would clear up. When it started it was 5 inches wide and effect the left side of the screen. That was about 8 months ago. In the last week its been half the screen like in the video. Took it apart today and and added blue foam shims about 2mm thick. Took about 1hr with some cleaning. Seems to be working great. Thanks norcal715. I have this same exact model and it started doing this some time ago. I have been watching it like this until it warmed up and it would stop doing it after about a half hour. I saw your video and did what you said to do now it works again as soon as I turn it on. Can't thank you enough. YOU ROCK!!!

Thank you for the very helpful video. I was puzzled by solid bars on left side of my samsung tv, tried changing t-con board to no effect. Then after watching your video, tapped on the corner of the lcd panel and lo and behold, that was the cause!
Just to let others know that the LCD panel is very fragile and it is very easy to crack by overtightening the front screws on the metal bezel. I would recommend only tightening loosely by hand and doing it with the screen powered on. Also that front bezel is all metal and can short the top circuit boards. Always replace and remove the bezel with the TV powered off.
Did exactly what you did but used cardboard shims and masking tape....was too excited to get the stuff u used. You are through and I appreciate your vids. Thank s for this awesome upload. I bought TV for $30 and came across this later,. Its perfect now.
good and informative man. i just found one literally yesterday in an alley by my house and i thought hey if it dont work ill just recycle it. i get it home and plug it and it worked , so i hooked my roku up to it to see if it was a picture or sound issue it had and nope it all works fine. then i notice it doing what the tv youre using is doing (its the exact same brand, and size, but my right side was doing this) my guess is thats why they put it out with the trash so ima try this pretty soon to correct the error. also i just lightly tap on the side that goes funky and it goes back to normal, honestly the screws might just be a tad lose. either way thanks for this upload

Dude! I have the same brand and model TV I didn't want to spend my kids Christmas money on a new TV. Thank you! I read the comments someone left about hurting the tv repair business but that's what you tube is about I get tips about motorcycle repair etc. My kids thank you buddy! Screw that dude that left that comment half of people these days can't even turn a wrench or a screwdriver!
Quick question. I have the same problem when I turn the tv on. After about 20 minutes of warmup it goes away. I will be trying your fix either way. Great job on the video! Haters please go away. He is helping folks :)
did this and it semi worked......my son had to figure out y the picture became distorted and then it went black....we began to see y and then the picture came in as he realized that the circuit board was loose....so we put electrical tape on the very edge of the circuit board not disturbing any circuits and it worked...not the pressure points he showed on the video but the circuit board was loose....thank u very much this video was very very helpful.....

Mine is a different model of 46" Sanyo, it was bought at Walmart 6 years ago. It had horiz lines running across the entire top of the screen coming down about 6-8". It has a few more more IC's across the top than yours, no channels stamped into the metal frame either, just foam spacers put in at the factory to press against the IC's (what does that tell you). All I did was place some thin foam weather stripping on top of the ribbon cable right on top of the IC's. It's been running perfect for a week. Thanks for the heads up sir.
I used a bicycle inner tube and managed to work a few layers under the ribbons. So far so good! Mine is a bit different. It has 2 ribbons across the top and 4 little copper tabs coming off the tv screen on the left side of the tv. I hope just putting the shims at the top work. I don't see any place to shims on the left side would do any good. If it starts acting up again, may have to tape those tabs down.
It worked! I had to do it a little differently, putting pressure on the cable didn't do anything, it seemed that putting pressure on the glass where the cable goes into glass worked, so I shimmed it with a few layers of a business card cut into small strips, held in place with a piece of electrical tape also cut into a thin strip and sandwiched it in between the glass and metal frame, hopefully it gives me a bit more life out of the tv.
You should start selling those little rubber tabs as a kit. I would have a hard time going into a tire shop explaining to them what I needed. Good Shiii....
Wow! I've had this exact same tv for 6 years and for the past three it's been flickering. I literally just fixed it by doing this... I really don't have the words. I'm in complete disbelief.
I had the same problem the picture would go bad (lines in screen, black spot, right side of screen going back). Usually it would be ok after "touching" the top right corner of the tv but it go to the point I was doing this constantly. I discovered that my problem was the lcd coming de-laminated at the top right of the LCD. Using 1/8" self-adhesive foam tape I placed 2, 8 inch strips of this foam tape in each corner of the metal frame over the lcd glass. This fixed my problem completely.

You need to be careful about placing rubber between the metal frame and the bond chip, It uses the dimple in the frame as a heat sink as well as a press. Could you have tried heat on the that chip's pins to reflow it a bit?

You would think that lcd manufacturers would install a connector on the lcd and a connector on the board with a replaceable ribbon connecting the two together. Just poor designs in my opinion. This is a common problem on many brands of TV's. Sometimes this temporary fix works and other times it will not depending on how loose the bond is on the panel or on the board.
Interesting technique nor cal thanks. I justhave vertical colour lines changing. I am working on the cof and have a short on sm caps. I wonder if your technique might work. Have you ant advice? Thank you

can you help me to find hat is that helps for 42 inch W670A Sony bravia LED TV. I have single vertical red line at left side of screen. is that possible to fix it same way. i know can only be found after opening a TV but i just want to know, what shall be a main reason for this.
I only had one ribbon that was messing up half my screen. What I did was instead of thinking to push the ribbon down, which distorts the shape, was to support the ribbon up. I took a piece of wire about the thickness of a round tooth pick and stripped off a 1" piece of its insulation. I slid that insulation under the ribbon on the side that is connected to the circuit board. I can't even imagine what these ribbons do. I guess its some sort of fiber optics. I got no idea. I have a sanyo 32" that has been going wacky. Mine is about 9 or 10 yrs old. Sometimes the screen goes black, or it will get those colorful lines through it and at the same time the audio sounds like a broken record (remember that term?), then the screen goes completely black, no audio, but the on/off light stays on. Sometimes it starts playing again, sometimes it doesn't and I'll have to turn it off, then back on.......and at times have to let it stay off awhile. But all the while, if I don't pause my roku, the video has continued. Would this be the same problem as you had? Because it does still work for the most part, it is my only tv and a bit leary about making it worse if I take it apart.
I figured out that if you run a soldering iron across the ribbon bond to the printed circuit board, you can re-bond the acf connections and restore your tv lcd panel! Search on lcd acf bonding to see the original factory method.
I have a 42 sanyo also. I have a question. they other day I noticed (while my window was open and the sun coming through) a blueish colored bezel under the tv screen? ive never noticed it before. but when the sun came thorough it really lite up. DO some sanyo tv come with the ambient lighting?? my model is dp42849

Thank you for this video. I have 2 small vertical red lines on my sanyo 4k 65" smart TV. The lines are far right if you were viewing it. They're about 1 inch apart. The lines are in front of the TV picture of whatever is playing. Mean you can always see them instead of going behind the picture showing. Does this sound like the same problem? The lines never flicker or change in any way. I would appreciate your advice. Thank you
Why didn't you just glue the rubber to where you originally pressed on chip/connector to fix it? and a 3/16" longer screw when reattaching front cover?
What is the universal 3 digit code for this model of TV? I have tried many codes but can never find the right one, some codes work for power on/off some for volume, but I'm trying to find a code that lets me do all those and access the menu so I can zoom out my picture. If anyone can help me find one that works I'd really appreciate it.
Have you run into one of these with a dark line across the middle and a buzzing noise? I think it is a ccfl transformer for the back light but not 100%
i have sony bravia klv-32s400a while watching my tv the smoke comes out from the tv the power goes out power led indecator keeps on blingking. when i open it the smoke comes from the t-con board and IC nos.U6 was blown.if i replace and buy new t-con board it will not blown again?thanks pls. help.....

i followed your method but when i removed the metal bezel the brightness on the screen faded to black and then to a super bright and wont go back to normal. any ideas?

i had Samsung LED TV UA40D5000PR, it has screen problem. when i switch it on sometimes its shows vertical lines starting from center of the screen from top to bottom and then goes to whole screen. but this problem is not always. then i power it off and make its power on after 15-20 minutes it works fine. so this problem is not always but comes and goes by power it on or off and restart after 15-20 minutes. kindly guide me what to do. i had already unplugged the ribbon strip of t-con board and cleaned it and again put it back, but the problem exist as it is. awaiting your kind advice. regards Nitin
Sir I have an lcd 42" newly bought... But I Used it only 3 and a half months only......... The screen went black... After Some test I made... I figure out that the Audio is Ok... And There are Image too (tested via flash light)... I think now that the problem may be the back-lights Invertors... But I just cant situate the invertors yet and how to Fix My Hitachi 42"... How does it look like and how to fix it myself... Plz help... Thank You In Advance...
Cool fix. Just out of curiosity, what happens when the ribbon is sandwiched? In other words what connection is it that you are fixing? You are seemingly sandwiching the ribbon to itself?
