I can tell you right now that's not how it works. It's more like they come up the joke in the moment and then when another plot point comes up they look back to what they already came up with and think what would be funnier. That's the secret as to why they work so well.

@@zerne6334 Did you think normal people would run headlong into Alfheim right after the last game with the psycho who kept people hostage for the better part of a year and made them fight each other to the death? I mean … mental health issues have _got_ to be par in such a case. Anyone who doesn't have profound mental health problems is staying FAR AWAY from this game or anything like it at the time of this story arc. But no, not these people! Maybe they're not all quite as fluffed up as Kirito, but … Kirito was almost beginning to become something sort of resembling a normal human being before the end of the first arc. Almost.

@@knghtbrd I mean, Alfheim was apparently (in this satire at least) originally marketed towards kids as a fun fairytale adventure. It only became what it is now because a very different crowd found value in the game design and essentially built their own lore upon the world, turning it into the dystopian nightmare it currently is.

Or if the Spriggan's weren't actually a race, it was just a glitched character model and so many people used the name that there was enough for an entire race.

It was actually pretty cool, we thought we'd been chasing her the whole time but she'd been dead for 50 years. Great BBEG fight too at the end. One of the more fun campaigns Ive been in.

I really love how they do pay tribute to the theme in the Alfheim arc of 'what does VR mean if you treat it like it's fake" if anyone remembers the original, that was central to Kirito's frustrations and he kept trying to tell people that what they do here has to mean something. This arc doubles down on how insulting Leafa's treatment of her "engagement" is when Kirito's entire relationship with Asuna is based on what happens online. When people tell him not to care about other players, or to stop taking the game so seriously, and he knows why they say that, but it's so frustrating you can feel it. I don't know if he'll come to the same end lesson that you have to take VRs seriously to some extent because it is you, no matter how you dress it up, but I kinda hope they do.

Honestly the RP aspect of this abridged arc is so engaging, it explores all the different ways people give importance to something that others would consider fake and how that only evolves further when virtual reality is added to the formula. Like the entire Salamander faction making plans to celebrate the baby shower for Squeaker's kids is so wholesome, and you see the same IRL with people who for example keep transferring their favourite pokémons to every new gen so that they won't be lost. It's simply sweet, to care that much about something.

Y'know something just dawned on me today: All the Spriggans were named Kirito (and variations thereabouts), but I actually have to kinda admire the commitment they had *all* sticking to the naming scheme. Like, there wasn't a single asshole (that we know of) that named themselves anything differently. They ALL stuck to it. Considering what a diehard group of role players they are, I kinda wonder what their in-universe/lore reason for everyone being named Kirito was originally. I mean we know what happened after when Kirito Prime "betrayed" everyone in their lore, but not what happened before. What was THAT story, I wonder. Also abridged-Kirito was just as guilty of doing that, because he was too stubborn to just...pick anything that wasn't Kirito-based as his username for ALO, so he kinda tortured himself, it was no one's fault but his own.

@@Drip_Wooper Nah, from the context it sounds like Travis is just Travis, just one of the group of friends including Becky, Denise, Brian, Todd, and Travis, that all used to play ALO together until Becky and Brian broke up. Todd, Kirito, [prime], (though technically, beta), rebelled against the ridiculous IRL problems bleeding into and ruining the fun of the game and all the other Kiritos agreed, except Travis, who didn't think it was a good idea to commit to a race war against Brian OR Becky's races because they were stronger players with stronger factions. Then, when faced with an ultimatum, Todd didn't back down and got all the Kiritos massacred (and probably tortured too), but Travis instead chose to play the game by the new rules and pick a side in the stupid breakup tantrum his friends were having until HE also got fed up with it and tried to just use their own races against themselves to force a reconciliation.

I kinda wonder just how common it is for MMORPG players to play gender-swapped. I've tried both ways and honestly it doesn't seem to change the experience that much. Although I'm sure it would be different in a system like this where it's much more immersive of a change.

SWE's SAO:A is seriously the best damn abridged series i've ever witnessed. They didn't only make a parody of the source material, but have instead rewritten it to be this masterpiece of a show, i truly think that most people like myself would rather take this as the actual canon for the series than the original... cuz it sucks ass, to put it frankly. Hats down for this amazing parody and i wish the folks behind this luck and prosperity with it. They deserve only the best, sincerely. I cannot wait for more episodes, i wanna know how will you rewrite the rest, yall are amazing

Me and one other guy I know are probably the only people who like the original. I have some nostalgia for it, as the first anime I watched (Pokemon doesn’t count, you can’t make me count it) so I can sit through the bad parts for the two half-decent moments. Needless to say, this is much much better.

The fact that Kiritos fanclub got an entire faction killed seems character accurate. That helps explain something major that was bugging me. I was expecting more Spriggans to be shown in the Abridged, especially a wild Gary.

I think my favorite part about the abridged is that we see Kirito transition from sociopath to a reasonably decent human being who’s just rude, but Yui and Asuna seem to remain terrible human beings.

Eh, it feels like Yui's just imitating her father, really. She _does_ offer to guard Leafa so Suguha can take a break IRL, after all, so she definitely has a nice part to her. She just likes to troll people, and has the actual psychological know-how to _really_ troll them. Meanwhile, Asuna's being a major ass, but she _is_ trying to keep Sugou from figuring out how to transfer the mind control's stats to real life, and then use it to control the entire world. She seems to be engaging in a little psychological warfare of her own, to make sure they're all too terrified to work on it.

I wouldn't say Yui's so much a bad person as A) traumatized, B) overwhelmingly preoccupied with saving her surrogate mother figure from a literal fate worse than death, C) is a psychologist AI and so knows how best to push users buttons, and D) is 110% done with all the bullshit getting in the way of their rescue of Asuna. Also, given the circumstances, Asuna has every reason to be in full "knives out" mode. She was already a sociopath or borderline to it, she's being held against her will pending brainwashing/mind rape through abuse of in-game stats, and seeing as her stats carried over from SAO (where she was one of the top-tier players) she is more than strong enough to overwhelm any of the security left guarding her. Given the circumstances and her previously established psychological profile, it makes sense for her to lash out/weaken their defenses via psychological warfare, effectively dropping all the inhibitions she previously kept in check when allowed to operate among other players (barring Kirito in bed), coming up with increasingly outlandish/traumatizing tortures and methods of killing her jailers. ...Wait, scratch that, Asuna basically admitted to eating the guards out of boredom. These mind games seem less like conscious strategy and more a happy accident/byproduct of her resisting her captors in her own, special way. Also, that Oberon guy _really_ better have some contingency plans in place. If Asuna ever gets out of the game, she is going to spend the rest of her life hunting him down to *[REDACTED]* him. And thanks to the real word stat boosts Nerve Gear conveys to its users, she's more than capable of following up on any threats she makes aka "keeping her promises." Devoured guards are probably going to be the least of his worries, _especially if he hurts Kirito in any way._

i always forget that the sprigans were just a clan of kirito cosplayers when i rewatch this arc and it kills me every time because it actully makes alot more sense why his default avatar would just default that way if it was based on the comon trends other sprigens picked and makes way more sense then the actual anime god the writing for this series only gets better the more i rewatch these

I love this story that something witty came up with. The group of friends who got the game at the bargain bin are all leaders of different races and the breakup between two of them had caused a war and tons of drama between the top honchos but like in the stupidest sense possible. I love this
