it’s so fun reading everyone’s memories of this song in the comments. The first time I heard this I was a freshmen in college and now in my 30s. This sure brings back some great times
Bro. The first time I listened to this song, I was 12 or 13 riding the bus to school and had randomly found it in a mound of single songs I downloaded from Kazaa and dumped onto my ipod. I am now 30 years old. PERSPECTIVE.
Ryan Maldonado I listened to them quite a bit in high school. I don’t listen to much of their old stuff anymore, but I still listen to this song to this day. It’s really always been one of my favourites.
I remember when this came out and how much this song helped me. I had friends who'd laugh at this song because they were like "He's sad about his goldfish?" The deeper meaning behind it, is his descent into depression, feeling nihilistic, seeing something so much as his goldfish may have helped him deal with that, gave him a bit of meaning to see it flourish even in a small tank, and that's what they didn't understand. I knew it. Forever my second favorite band of all time.
First heard this song back in my favorite years of high school.. over a decade ago now here in 2018 my fiance and I are getting our fist house and were going over baby names.. Penelope came up and I think it's a keeper.
@@nadyaabramov3368 Brief existence for sure; sad? Maybe. I forgot I left that comment. Ps. My sister stole the name Penelope from me and named her daughter that (she was born 2 weeks after my baby whom I named Elena).
“Don’t wanna see you floating up side down, on the top of the bowl when I come around to visit you.” My teenage hormones always made me shed a tear cause of these lyrics back in the day. Even though I’ve never owned a goldfish.
2020... first heard this song back in high school, and it’s still my favorite song of all time 💜💜 just everything about it is sounds amazing and the fact it’s about a goldfish is just 💜💜💜💜💜
I'm treading water with my oars Glass galleons anchored, oceans floor I'm diving down with all my gear In search of treasure, para mi corazon this hurts my heart... but i absolutely love this song.
It sure is, but obviously this is the version they heard that connected with them to the point that they wanted name a dog after the song. @@justdonnie
i'm getting para mi corazon tattooed on my wrist because of this song. well...the pinback version actually. though i DO love this cover! both are great. :)
Everyone needs to get over it. Pinback is AMAZING, yes. They are one of my favorite bands.. but obviously they have inspired another great band so much that they covered their song. And they are both great versions. This is there artistic interpretation. Don't need to hate on it or fight over whose better. They are both different and both beautiful.
definitely not pinback's best song though. imo rob crow is the 2nd best songwriter alive next to paul mccartney..but im a songwriter with 3 albums and an ep out on itunes, google play, spotify, etc. myself and pinback was a large influence so I am pretty partial to them..
Found out my family and I will be having a little Girl. Her name will be Jolee Penelope Krieger. Life is amazing, one minute you’re in middle school the next your kids are.
If you like these guys you should check out Ellerker, their website is Ellerker.net or you can find them on here, search "Ellerker An Anchor Holds Me Under". Great band!
