My apologies for the sound quality in this video. I had some microphone gremlins 🙏

I was never huge on greens until I experienced Daniel Smith's greens, especially the Green Apatite Genuine, Cascade Green, & the Serpentine Genuine! I like to keep a Sap Green, (QOR,) a Perylene Green, (DS,) & an "effects" green, Green Apatite Genuine, (DS,) on my palettes. (Sometimes Pthalo Green/Viridian for mixing.) 💚

Love DS’s sap green, I just bought it recently. I like my greens dirty and grungy. Honestly, the grosser the better. To me schmincke’s is so clean and bright it’s unnatural. I want swampy nasty goodness.

I really like the DS and the color you mixed. Oranges can really help making a natural green. Kudos on using the PG18. TFS 🙏

Happy to see a fellow DaVincipaints fan. I love Daniel Smith like almost everyone but DaVinci is also pure luxury and much less pricey

I had a Sap Green when I used Cotman paints. It was handy to mix with Dioxazine Purple for a quick grey or for muting reds. But I dropped it ( and the purple ) when I moved to artists grade paints. I am pretty sure it most closely resembled the DaVinci Sap Green. I like to make most of my greens from Payne's Grey and the appropriate temperature yellow... and then tweak it if necessary. Thank you for this and all the other videos :) Cheers.

I have a couple of Sap Green’s in my collection but Daniel Smith is by far my favourite and never reach for the other Sap Green’s. Great comparison and I quite like the Sap Green that you mixed.

I have one from QOR that I like but I also like to mix Azo Green (PY129) with Indanthrone Blue (PB60). Da Vinci has a mix with those pigments called Denise's Green (Denise Soden).

I use Olive Green, instead (turner). It's nice on its own, and I adjust it as I like.

Daniel Smith's sap green is by far my favourite I guess. It is a very nice natural-looking green, not too bright, not too dull, not too cool or warm. Very versatile for botanical art.

Saludos😊

I’m a big fan of Daniel Smith Sap Green. That and Green Gold. I can mix all of the thousand shades of Florida overgrowth green from those two shades and they give my art a cohesive look without sacrificing my yellows. I rarely use either out of the tube. But I also like Qor Sap Green, as it also has the same slightly olive cast asDS Sap Green. St. Petersburg’s Sap Green is closer to the Schmincke, and M. Graham’s appears to have much more Ultramarine Blue in the mix. Thanks for another great video!

I've been able to make a fairly decent Sap Green by mixing DS Nickel Azo Yellow and a ShinHan Prussian Blue. Placed next to my Sap Green, the hue is very similar but less grainy and more 'glowing' than the pre-made counterpart. I love both :D

Owwww.....I like that Davinci sap green....it looks like a non staining color with no "under tone" as i can see the white of the paper through the paint.

I use DaVinci light Hookers and add M.Graham’s azo green or PY129 for the yellow undertone and since Hookers is a convenience green it’s the only one I allow on my palette. It can be “spiked” any direction. DS has a very nice premixed green with lovely separation too. It does remind me a bit of the Undersea green and having the pigment understanding really does help minimize duplicates. Thank you 😊

I wouldn't say Sap Green is a particularly versatile green on its own. I always end up adding something to it. But maybe that's because my Sap Greens are not very good quality. I have these in my collection: Sap Green (Van Gogh), Sap Green (W&N Cotman) & Sap Green (Kuretake). I do have a few Daniel Smith and W&N greens, although I like mixing my own too. I do quite a bit of landscape paintings and sketches, so having ready made greens are helpful. Recently, I've been trying to mix more variety of greens, particularly the lighter shades or the golden/orangey green shades. I guess I'll eventually settle on a limited number of combos, but for now I'm just experimenting as I go.

I agree, I think sap greenish colors are so easy to mix with Pg7 phtalo green as the basis. And I like my greens varied so I don't feel the need to buy a standard sap green. Also phtalo green is SO tinting you need just a tiny amount each time, it lasts forever.

I'm not sure what a proper sap green looks like but of the paint I have labeled sap green, I've been fond of Holbein this season. HEY! thanks for mentioning Terra cotta Pr 102. That one I adore and hadn't thought of using it in a green mix. Deb in Montana

I've never really had the need for a Sap green on my palette. I have similar warm greens which are much more interesting, like Jadeite Genuine & Undersea Green both by Daniel Smith. Both of these have beautiful granulation and colour separation.

Daniel smith is by far my favorite sap green shade. My other favorite is Holbein, which I find more useful as a mixer because it’s more bright and clean than DS. I like Holbein on its own also, But Nothings beats the realistic glow of Daniel Smith Sap Green ❤ I have tried four or 5 other brands and don’t care much at all for them. Especially not Schmincke 😶

I have two sap greens: QOR and W&N. I like them both and are slightly different: PG36,PR101,PY150 for QOR and PG36, PY110 for W&N. I like your blend of SAP Green! Not liking the Schmincke so much, it's pretty but like the others more. Thanks for the video.

Precioso el verde de Schmincke. Consigo uno parecido con el turquesa de cobalto de Schmincke y la aureolina de Winsor & Newton. Y al ser los dos cobaltos, no hay problema con la aureolina que es otro cobalto. Saludos.

QoR's version is great and similar to yours, actually - they use PG36, PR101, and PY150. It's a bit greener and can go darker than yours. I do like the use of PR 101 instead of an orange. The QoR version has a bit of color separation that I like. I like that you started with Viridian as it can give some granulation. It gave you a nice yellow undertone with green overtone that is quite cool. Of these four in your video, I like it the best. I want to experiment with that now!

When I use Sap Green, I always use WN because it's 2 pigments, but I really like your mix. Maybe you should go into the paint making business. :) It's similar to QOR's except theirs is PG36 instead of PG18. Yours is better looking.

DS Sap green is one of the most natural convenience mixes I think. I also am a fan of his other specialty greens like serpentine and apatite. I like WN sap and Holbein, but both of those need a little adjusting. I am a big fan of Sennelier Olive green too.

Oooh, great video! Sap Green is one of those colors that seems very much up to the interpretation of the maker, kind of like Payne's Grey. To ME, the Schmincke should be called May Green or Spring Green (their May Green is really a phthalo yellow-green). I have it, and it would be really nice if someone wants to do a neutralizing color wheel palette that's completely transparent. But Daniel Smith has to me the nicest sap green, in terms of using it out of the tube for convenience. I really enjoyed seeing the DaVinci next to these, since I haven't tried that one yet. DaVinci also have Denise's Green, which is PB 60 + PY 129, also a beautiful sap green that is in theory more environmentally friendly. Both of those look like nice convenience mixtures that some might really love. I love the green you mixed from your DaVinci colors - I will have to try that mix, I have all those colors! We could also use PG 7 and maybe get it a bit darker. One convienience green that has surprised me with how much I love it is the Qor Hooker's Green. Oto turned me on to it. It makes amazing black with PV 23!

I would say the DS version and your mix are far too olivy in the undertone. nice green, but the reason to get a ready mixed sap green is not these kind of greens. because they do exist under other names and/or can easily be mixed to a ready existing green or phtalo green and adding a bit of this and a bit of that. the sap green of schmincke is definitly a base to add bits and pieces of other colours to have a variation on the paper. others, like the one of winsor n. or even white nights and some others, have a certain bright plant green tone to be used ready for some sorts of botanicals. but of course, it's always about what one is painting. a simple greeting card with simple motives or deco to be printed for festives, or if someone wants to get a botanical right or create an interesting landscape. as we all know by now - I hope 😀- it's all about slight variation when it comes to create interest for the eye in a painting. I have heard, some, who do landscape never use sap green, except to tone down another colour (sometimes even reds). so it there is a call for a yellowish saturated green, then it must be a rather 'ugly' colour then, so one could call it the right tone. isn't it 😉

Just sucks that the PO48 or 38 used in the DS sap green is a discontinued pigment...

I think out of the four, the Daniel Smith very slightly edges out the win because the dark looks like it has more complexity than your mix, but in the lighter areas they're so very similar; a very good demonstration on how easy it is to mix a good green from single pigments! Neither the Schminke and Da Vinci are really a "sap green" but I do think the Da Vinci is a beautiful color in its own right.
