This conception of love is actually quite similar to the one of psychoanalysis. For Freud and Lacan, love is all about desire, and desire is all about the void between you and your desire's object. Lacan says: "Loving is to give what one does not have to someone who does not want it"

That's quite a good catch! In fact, what is unique about Greek poetry is that these wonderful artists wrote their verses precisely for the void in-between, NOT the actual object of desire.

Yes, one cannot worship Aphrodite for ever!

Homer also calls Thanatos a loosener of limbs. And Aphrodite walks on the skulls men as a maiden trampling on eggshells! (Aescholas )Eros is the invader ! Am sharing this video with my daughters and I cannot imagine a more clear eyed and adult way of teaching them about this invading passion ! Do a video on Minnermos please Thank you excellent work !

Thank you very much for your encouraging comments. Using our videos as a way to convey the meaning of Eros to your daughters is perhaps the greatest honour we have had so far. We are planning to continue our journey in the land of lyric poetry, although our next stop is probably going to be Archilochus.

Eros suffocates on the beds, between the bodies. It needs distance to manifest. How can we forget those moments before we joined our relationship, before we got the approval. The most beautiful moments, those when your heart jumps out of your chest. Those moments when the chest hurts sweetly from his arrows.

It's also the creation of space, of the distance necessary for Eros to exist.

You are projecting too much of contemporary Greek conservatism and patriarchy in this exposition of love. The critique of contemporary culture confuses an otherwise interesting expose.

What kind of ideas am I projecting out of curiosity? At which points of this video?
