I know he didnt actually behead himself. Its not meant to be taken literally. It means that he was so willing to give up his life for Allah that he gladly welcomed death. In a sense he "beheaded himself". That is what "Jo se ulfat mein sar kata tha tha" means. I love this qawwalii. The lyrics are genius. I'm working on a full translation.
Yes Imam Hussain s.a. sacrificed his life for Allah.,and to save Islam He had promised his Grandfather Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) that he will sacrifice everything and save Islam at any cost.Imam Hussain had a divine power he could have defeated single handedly everyone.,but he chose happiness and willingness of Allah to sacrifice his life.After his martyrdom his family was tortured so much that till now no other family has been tortured like them, but all family members endured all those pain for Allah's happiness. The last conversation which Imam Hussain s.a. did with his killer Shimr is being sung in this qawwali.

my friend i just said i like both nusrat is great aswell specially in punjabi language and urdu nusrat is great but i personally think in pharsi and arabic qawali no body can beat them.

sharab is a metaphor for divine love. saqia being god the bartender, serving drinks of his love. the poet's saying that there has been no greater expression of love for god than at karbalah where hussein sacrificed himself and 71 of his followers under the influence of 'josh-e-ulfat' i.e the force of (divine) love.
Music wo hai jo asar chod jaaye and this is a masterpiece, am no expert, no judgement here but just love for sabri brothers for their music and passion....heard this atleast 200 times already and still listening to get more deeper............
Once you listen to these two you can never listen to anyone else wether nfak or somwbody else these produced better qawalies and nfak was also good but could not reach the level of sabri brothers (its just my opinion )
whenever I listen to this quawwali it takes me to a different world.. some where up in the sky away from this world problem.. King of all the quawwali..
uff man these guys were the kings of qawalis.... nusrat fateh ali khan was a legend but these guys were just something else. they put you in a trance which n f ali khan could never do to me. my dad used to have a cinema in manchester in the 80s and one of the studios had a massive stage. they performed there and i was only 6 but remember the police had to come and disperse the crowd from outside cause they tried to get in but there were no more tickets.... true legends!!!!!

I follow this magnificent group since 1980, they are so gifted that you feel God even if you believe to be an atheist. That is True Baraka pouring through them. And God Mercy is infinite, as it allows even infidels to receive His Grace through the sound of these wonderful worshippers of His Love. Nevertheless, it will be great to show some respect and abstain from some inappropriate comments.
"Eesa (Prophet Jesus) nay kum bi-izineh say murday jelah kay pee" means he wants the same wine that Jesus drank when he awoke the dead? - Of course he didnt drink actual wine - wine is a metaphor for divine truth with is used to strengthen faith (iman) and love in God.

Alcohol in this context is about the divine love and the love of God, it is not about alcohol in the literal sense. The first segment is saying cupbearer give me more to drink, then the cupbearer says what do you want and to each answer the drinker says not this one then he says I want the alcohol that Hussein r.a drank at Karbala. The last segment is then about the exchange between Shimr and Hussein and it symbolises Hussein's sacrifice and his devotion to the divine love and it's perfectly contrasted with Shimr's lust for power and worldly love.
I am an atheist, but when I listen to them, all of sudden I become a Shia. Now please tell me again, what is the difference between a Shia & a Sunni ? On any given day I will stay in Ali's camp, and will not hesitate to sacrify myself for him. Too bad it happened 1400 years ago. But at least we can keep their memories alive. Pakistan's highest award is Nishan-e-Haider, no living soul has earned it. Lucky are the ones who are decorated with this honor (does that mean something ?). This tradition will not not change, regimes will come & go.
f you are claiming your self an atheist and shia as well then u better call your self a shia..because if u have love of hazarat ALI ( A.S) then you have it all to die in peace. don't go in debate of shia and sunni,these are just sects...all is if u love hazrat ALI (a.s) then u love prophet (S.A.W) n then ultimately Allah...u have no option but to believe in God then..:)..
Shia means friend of Ali, I can be an atheist & Shia, I always was. Even though I was born in a Sunni family, but my family was devoted to the '5' sacreds. I have read history, and I believe Imam Ali should have been the first Caliph. I also respect Sufis, they all follow the Great Imam, No one else. It would have been nice to be during those times & struggles the evil people under the flag of Imam & die for Him.

I know the Muslim history much better than many ‘so called Muslims’. Islam was never about peace. People were given 3 choices, become Muslim, pay Jazia, or get killed. We know the fate of 100s of slaughtered Jews (Arabs with much heinous crimes were forgiven).Prophet never left any political structure. With his death the schism appeared. Except for the first caliph, the other 3 were killed. Prophet’s wife & his son-in-law had a battle. How many Muslims were killed? Moavia’s son butchered the remaining members of Prophet’s family (save Zain). After that it was all blood & gore. There were some good Muslims too, so are Christians & Hindus. There was never ever a true peaceful Islamic state, because there was no system in place. Muslims do not like to see their face in the mirror. Islam is just another religion, not better or worse than others.

As he prostrated on the ground, Shimr ibn Dhil-Jawshan, one of Umar ibn Sa'ad's commanders, approached Husayn and cut off his head.
One small criticism if I have of NFAK is that he sold his voice and I personally felt that alot of the respect that I had for him disappeared. Don't get me wrong, he was wonderful with his qawali's etc but, as my dad said to me NFAK was jack of all trades and Sabri Bros were masters at what they did...
