Growing jackfruit trees in South Florida is not only possible, it can be profitable. I went and visited my friends Chuck and Sarah a couple of weeks ago and filmed their amazing front yard jackfruit tree. In their location near Fort Lauderdale, the jackfruit tree is quite close to the upper end of its range. Just a little further north and growing jakfruit would be basically impossible without protection or a very good microclimate. A big thanks to Sarah for sharing her jackfruit growing experience.

you can eat the jackfruit seeds of the overripe fruits. I and my cousin would put those jackfruit seeds in burning hays and when we smell something that is already cooking inside, we use sticks to bring those cooked jackfruit seeds and we eat them..

Those are not little fruits on the outer branches. They are the male flowers full of pollen. After a few days of shedding pollen they dry up and drop off.

Jackfruit was primarily grown for wood and food. In India it used to be available in the months of March to June. Can be cooked raw. Seeds are high in protein too.

Wish I could grow Jackfruit trees in central west texas. The "unripe" fruit is an amazing tasting meat substitute. I buy the canned jackfruit to make "pulled pork BBQ", "sweet & sour chicken", "cashew chicken". It's an amazing meat substitute that is just jam packed with nutrients. I hope this lady knows what a gold mine she has growing in her yard!

I one time purchased a jack fruit at my grocery store. I live in an area that can't sustain a jack fruit tree because of the cold winters and not being tropical. The fruit I purchased was imported and about 12 pounds and costed 20 to 25 dollars. I had so much jack fruit from that 12 pound fruit that I had to refrigerate and put some in the freezer. I roasted most of the seeds in the oven and planted a couple in a pot to be a house plant. The seeds are great roasted in the oven and the fruit overall was delicious and I recommend trying it. It seemed like I got more fruit than actual rind on the jack fruit.

@@priyajac2004 & Nasus Sdleihs, sorry for the late reply to everyone! I hate to say they all died slow and painful (for us) deaths at the hands of some unknown disease. The disease caused leaves to have brown spots and drop off one-by-one. Nothing in my botanical repertoir seemed to work, except neem oil which only delayed the disease progression. I wish I had a happier story to report, guys!

cover the jackfruit with unused clothes to prevent fruit flies. keep one from one group.
@MrMichelle1616
@MrMichelle1616 8 лет назад
My guesses with the problem with your jack fruit not getting really big before it fall off is, the tree need a good prune to allow air flow through the tree; a quick look at the ground it looks damp and the trunk looks like it has moss or mould growing on it. From my experience, trees that get too much water will drop fruit and struggle. It's like the tree is drowning..So let the ground dry out once in a while but not for too long.
