Sarah Sze is an artist best known for her sculpture and installation art. In this video, Sze introduces her approach to making art and describes her work 'Seamless'.
'Seamless' was first shown in 1999 in Pittsburgh, USA, and was re-installed at Tate Modern in 2018.
The artwork is inspired by painting and architecture. Using everyday objects such as ladders and lights, Sze blurs the line between their visual appearance and practical use.

I remember seeing Seamless at the Tate in 2019. I was blown away by the complexity of it all, it's like the thoughts of an Artist... turned into art!

Brilliant from a perspective of Materiality. Incredible concept encapsulating notions of time, imagination, revealing, hiding, mobiles, motion, energy, electricity, movement, light, flow, atmosphere, mundanity, profanity, normality and transcendence ... fucking awesome.

I've seen Centrifuge by her and was astonished by it. Great work, hope to see her more often

3:08 I like this aspect of the piece very much. I have done low voltage cabling in many offices and there's an unexplainable suffering & joy to gaining access to the uncommon areas. Sometimes you would move aside a panel of drop-ceiling, and you would be suffocated by the pink insulation & a low base & a meshwork of water pipes, and if you were smart you would wear a mask. Sometimes you would move aside a panel, and it would be like a fucking cathedral up there, ethereal and resonant like a museum. And the unwritten law was: anything you found was now yours - drills, flashlights, screwdrivers. And, strange how you feel a dumb sense of VIP entitlement when you are allowed access above and behind the scenes, thinking in your mind, "it's okay, I'm a limo driver"

"You mark time through objects" reminds me of the Eno lyric "The passage of my life is measured out in shirts."

As an European artist, I find it very odd when she explains what is "interesting" about her work. Isn't it on us to judge? That's so US.

Very interesting. Where in Europe are you from. I'm from the UK and I always find it rather akward having to tell people the intentions of my art. I would rather other people have those conversations. But then again I think that's just me personally. Many other British artists are the opposite

Pretty sure she is talking about what SHE finds interesting … don’t be a snotty European

I was recommended this video by RU-vid. I don't know much about her, but the look of the artwork is dissatisfying, considering her training as an architect. It reminds me of 1st year university projects but at a larger scale where there are ideas and concepts but no finesse. The execution and result is simply disharmonious.

Sad! She seems creative, skillful, intelligent and this piece is horrible. She can probably create some incredible pieces. I can imagine her producing something not made out of tools and appliances.
