Saramonic just released a new consumer grade wireless microphone system with some really interesting features. The new Blink 500 system comes in several different kits for different situations. The B2 kit, for example, comes with a dual channel receiver, two transmitters with integrated microphones, and two lavalier microphones. There are other kits with a single transmitter as well as special receivers for iPhone, iPad, and even a receiver with USB-C output for Android phones and tablets. Let’s take a closer look and listen to the Blink 500!

Thanks for continuing to review the lower-cost devices, and for offering your insight into the relative quality of each system. Was surprised that this Blink system didn't end up at the bottom of the list. Unfortunately, as others have said, the inability to separate mics into left and right channels makes it a non-starter for my use.

Excellent review! I know this one wasn't easy. I would recommend your Pros and Cons list for those with comments about the dual audio. This is very clearly a consumer product allowing you to very easily utilize 2 transmitters and one receiver. There is no package or product like this out right now, especially for the price. Adding the additional capabilities of USB-C and Lightning receivers makes Blink unique in the market. Agreed that splitting the audio for Prosumers might be a bit of a bummer, but nothing else does what this does and comes with everything you need in box to do it (and it certainly doesn't mean that a Prosumer aimed unit wouldn't be available in the future). This is uncharted territory. For those speaking about buying 2 kits from other manufacturers, I would take into consideration that with those 2 kits, you would also need to buy 2 external Lavs, some sort of adjoining cable or cables, if you're going digital (Phone/Tablet/Computer) some sort of an interface, and figure out some sort of mounting option to host 2 receivers. All of that adds to the price of the kits. All of that is included in Blink. Best to all!

Curtis Judd Just for a follow up, I borrowed 2 rode wireless go sets and a saramonic ax100 audio mixer (sr-ax100) today, for a 2 way interview with my gh5. And I have to say I was really impressed. The rode sets are very good for consumer grade use, and the saramonic sr-ax100 allowed me to split and individually control the level of each Channel (which was very useful as one guy had a booming voice) Best of all, this set up can be purchased (in the UK) for £340, Which is approx £100 mor than the saramonic blink 500. But definitely worth it to get separate control of each mic. Previously I’ve hired 2 sennheiser Avx mke2 sets and a mix pre3 (and sinc in post to avoid latency ) which cost a fortune, but the rode/saramonic set up is 80% as good, for a very reasonable outlay and far quicker to set up. It’s a great set up for utube or live streaming and most “low budget” applications.

I am looking for a good two-mic setup for use on location-based Facebook Live shows for the company I work for, using Switcher Studio which runs on an iPad, so this looks basically perfect. Hey Curtis, another great review! I did notice that the audio was out of sync a bit... Was that these units or just a minor oversight? Also I agree that not splitting the mics left and right is a design/marketing mistake. Still... For $250US, that really is a low price compared to it's peers.

Hi Jerry, the receiver ran directly into the camera so if you're seeing latency, it is either in the Blink 500 system (there likely is a bit there), but there may also be some on playback. Apple devices and RU-vid don't seem to get along so well on the sync front.

Thanks Idrissa. That particular fan is super quiet so that's why it didn't register but in that test you can hear plenty of other room noise. I didn't do any sort of noise reduction, that was the raw recording. I think the best thing you can do is control the noise in the space where you're recording. If there are any fans or compressors (refrigerators), or heating/cooling systems that you can turn off, that will help. If you cannot turn them off, placing a sound blanket between you and the noise source can help a lot as well. Best wishes!

For everyone that needs separation between two sources, there's actually a similar priced option on the market: The Nikon ME-W1, which works on bluetooth A2DP and thus may have a limited reach (50m line of sight according to Nikon) and somewhat of a delay (below one frame, according to a test I did). The kit is one microphone and a reciever and both are able to capture sound (built-in mic or 3,5mm lavalier, not supplied), but of course the reciever must be hard-wired to the camera or recorder. And there is no option to blend the two sources together. If you're only using the transmitter, it works as dual-mono; if the reciever is also used to capture audio, the transmitter is recorded to the left channel and the reciever to the right.

Yes, all digital wireless systems will have some latency. I didn’t specifically measure it with the Blink 500 but will do that on future reviews.
@ww1www
@ww1www 2 года назад
Latency on this kit is awful, and not even constant. The sound delay is very obvious on recorded video footage, and it makes it difficult to sync in post. I tend to record this wireless into an external recorder so that the camera scratch audio helps syncing. I also have experienced issues when using both mics, sometimes one of the mics just went silent during recording and not coming back. Maybe connection was lost and not recovering?

Curtis, another great review... I have one of the 2nd Generation DJI Osmo's named "DJI Osmo Mobile". I own an original Osmo with the X-7 Camara Upgrade. I loved the use of the gimbal, especially when covering LIVE events like Weddings or FANS at a Sports Game. It had a 3.5mm TRS Jack with a small, what I'll assume by amplitude, Condenser Mic. Well on the Osmo Mobile that became a "Charging Port" and I lost 100% my ability to provide any Quality Audio. This Saramonic Blink offers a "LIGHTNING" Port receiver revitalizing a piece of "B-Roll" hardware! They seem to have some impressive stuff including a slightly Higher End Wireless Two Channel Receiver with an XLR Transmitter with have 48V Phantom Power! I may need to take a look, was wondering if you had? Thanks as always, Todd

Hi Todd, I've just used the kit shown in this video. The one thing I'd be careful of is that the dynamic range on this kit seems quite limited so not sure how it would fare when recording fans at a sporting event.

@@curtisjudd Curtis, thanks for the feed back... I had a couple High School Level Interns showing some interest in this field. I had always sent my wife out, with the original Osmo, and it works awesome with it's proprietary mic gather Ambient Crowd Noise, for B-roll (Half Time or Postgame Broadcast). The Osmo Mobile lost all that depending on the iPhones Mics to pic up sound. I think this provides a way, back, into Filmic Pro, for some decent Ambient Sound... We still rely on the Original Osmo and eternally powered Interview XLR Mic for any on field interviews (Half Time, Post Game) with a dedicated 3.5mm TRS Stereo input. Again the High School use on a 100' Jumbotron, actually quite exciting for a 56 year old audio/video guy.... We use a Roland V-1HD, 3 Sony HDR-NX3 Cameras (One direct HDMI Two Through Hollyland Mars 300's and a Lap-top for bottom 1/3's and Osmo/iPhone Capture... Three year ago they had an LED Scoreboard now a Huge TV & Teens with HIGH EXPECTATIONS! Thanks again, Todd

Hi Navarre Newspaper, as they come, you can connect one receiver per camera (two microphones). So if you have two of the Blink 500 B2 kits and two cameras, yes, you could record 4 microphones and sync it all up in post production. Be sure to use a slate/clapper board to make that process easier.

To be clear, you get two unique audio tracks? It doesn't sound like it. It would be a deal killer if, in post, I can't isolate the two people because, if you have to have both mics open when one person is speaking, you add considerably to the ambiance.

Hello my friend. First of all, congratulate your channel. I would like to know between this model of the Saramonic Blink 500 B2 and the models of BOYA (BOYA BY WM4 PRO, BY WM6, WM8 and etc.) all wireless, what are the main characteristics that differentiate it in the market? I'm looking for a wireless miucorphone for home use, home videos and to use on my smartphone, but that had a good cost-benefit ratio. Another doubt I have is that if I buy the normal version of it (Blink 500 B2) and put an adapter on my smartphone will it work normal? Mine is a HUAWEI P30 PRO (connection type C) because only then could I reuse the microphone in DSLR cameras and in the notebook sporadically. Friend, is there a dead cat that I find to use in the fixed microphone of this device? Why did I see that when used to record in windy environments using it (without using the lapel microphone), there is a lot of noise? Grateful for the help and attention. Strong hug.

Saramonic needs to do two things, provide a list of top Lavs that can be used with their Blink500 and UWMIC9 (the one I got) I've been wanting to upgrade my lavs to Sennheiser or possibly some other lav brand that may be cheaper than a Sennheiser to maximize my Saramonic quality. Can't we get "Sennheiser quality" by simply using a Sennheiser lav into the mini jack port? Second thing Saramonic should do is suggest nicest small compact Type C power banks if possible that integrate with clip so each transmitter and potentially also the receiver can extend battery by some nice very compact power bank designs if possible.

@charbax 4 года назад
@@curtisjudd you did the channel scan thing before using Uwmic9 to avoid interference as much as possible, right? I wonder if the Blink500 as other similar compact 2.4Ghz all do this automatic frequency hopping thing to try to avoid interference "automatically". My understanding is that the wifi spectrum at 2.4Ghz is incredibly busy especially at busy places like at events and trade shows, and so I wonder how that 2.4Ghz frequency hopping technology might compare with traditional set wireless microphone bands setup.
