Adam suggested that Hausu (1977) might have been the first movie to use "the creepy black hair thing." However, I think that it's much more likely that it originated from the 1964 Japanese horror anthology movie Kwaidan (怪談). The first short in this movie, entitled "The Black Hair" (黒髪), features the ghost of a scorned wife with (as the title suggests) very long spooky black hair. I would highly recommend this movie both as a standalone horror experience and also as a significant event in the history of Japanese horror films.
I think it goes all the way back to certain yokai. I don't remember the name but one is basically an umbrella with one eye and long stringy black hair. There is also a creepy woman yokai who shares a lot of similarities with the j-horror stereotype.
The Criterion features said House was a massive financial hit in Japan that had children lining up around the block all day (this sounds like a joke but it’s not). However, it was critically reviled and filmmakers were afraid it would be the death of legitimate Japanese cinema because it was so stupid and tasteless.
+Mr Robot Please for the love of god tell me you've watched the whole thing. I'll admit, if you've never been depressed or anxious or don't really care about the political commentary, there isn't much in the characters for you to connect with other than the comedy, but as someone who cares about all of that, I found the show quite profound and stepping forward in the right direction for adult cartoons.
You guys should have a little plot summary for the movie spoiler talk, it makes it a lot easier to understand what you are talking about for the people who haven't seen the movie or for those that had seen it a long time ago
When people talk about videogames being art the first game I think of is Silent Hill (and also the 2nd SH game), I don't really know why, it's probably because of the art the game itself has (like Masahiro Ito's), the atmosphere, the story. I can't really tell, but that game always comes to my mind
My absolute favourite score is "Voices of Light" by Richard Einhorn which was based on and included on the DVD for "The Passion of Joan of Arc". It is by far the most engrossing, emotional and memorable scores ever made. I only watch that movie with that score. And for clarification, Björk was in another film called "The Juniper Tree" as a younger woman, but it was an Icelandic film that not many people know.
I like that you mention the Production Design since the person who did that was Hannah Beachler from Wright State and I met her and she was pretty awesome.
Mr. Foot I literally skipped to a random part of the video, scrolled through the comments and hit that exact point in the video where he said it as I read your comment
I half expected someone to kidnap Ralph when he said Han does nothing in Return of the Jedi and the rest of the podcast to cut to horror cuts of him being waterboarded.
Letterboxd is my favourite movie rating sight. It's rated by people who love films like we do, and I find it's a better indicator of a films quality than IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes.
I took a film class in college about genocide, and we talked about Schindler’s List a bit. Some are very critical of its interpretation of genocide, calling it a pornography. The best example I can remember is the shower scene, where the movie keeps the audience in suspense, waiting to see the brutal reality of the Holocaust, the gas chambers. Then they fake you out and instead its actually just a shower. But wtf, that’s not what happened. People died, people suffered. In some ways that scene was interpreted as pornographic.
Old video lol so kinda irrelevant, but Hausu actually made quite a lot of money on its debut. It was originally a side attraction for a by the books film but surpassed it and made nearly 900 million yen
1:16:00 It's not just that it came out in 1994. It's also one of the most popular movies ever made. Probably 90% of the people listening to this podcast probably grew up with it because they're all little babies. Meanwhile not everyone has seen the movie Adam refers to when he says "Bruce Willis is a ghost", which I won't say the title of in case somebody hasn't seen it. It's one of the most famous movies ever made but it's easy to see that not everyone has seen The Sixth Sense.
I can not believe what you guys have done with this episode. You have shamelessly COPIED another podcast called the "Sardonicast." I did not expect this from my favorite youtuber Adumthemoviehater
Twan Van Der Linden This is actually the spiritual prequel to *Sardonicast Episode 1* they bought the rights. The full name is *Sardonicast Episode 2: before the bogaloo*
You three should make a blockbuster movie together. It'll be the first Hollywood blockbuster to have the main cast all be gay/furries. It'll be super important for representation and will be a cultural touchstone that can rival Black Panther. 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, guaranteed.

Sardonicast thanks for the podcast boys. You three and Chris Stuckmann are by far my favourite movie reviewers on any platform, and some of the funniest people I can think of. This podcast is a blessing, keep up the great work.
@@artificialfreedom he didnt even invent anything lol, he bought tesla and paypal and tesla doesnt make money, he isnt homeless because of government funding and he says so much dumb shit, he isnt a scientist, just a money sucking engineer

Could you imagine being the kid who made the “What Are Those” meme? You walk into a movie that’s made almost $700 million in the US, and they mention your dumb vine
Hearing Adam say he doesn't like Better Call Saul hurt my heart. Then hearing Ralph say he doesn't like Fargo hurt my heart even more. At least they all enjoyed Hausu! CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE
I was forced to leave a dislike because of Adam's head. The top of his hair slightly overlaps with the sound bar. Please fix this or I will have to unsubscribe.
IAmATablecloth I literally watch the video of an all-audio thing mostly because it gives me a brief spark of happiness when the sound bar troughs briefly line up with Ralph's chin. XD
Film Reviewer 101 No. They have no correlation. Korey is actually my favorite. I have this photo of him as my profile picture out of admiration and the fact that moment was hilarious, so i solidified that moment as my avatar.
Guys, I know how The Cloverfield Paradox could have worked. So we’ll keep the whole idea with them opening a portal to hell and demons coming out and shit, we can make it work. One by one, the passengers of the ship are attacked and possed by demons, morphing into creepy, scary monsters representing their greatest sins. The end of the film shows the ship crashing on Earth, the last survivor crawls out of the ship while grossly mutating into a demon while desperately trying to cling to life. They look around and see people being ripped to shreds by demons showing us that Earth has been swarming with the hellish creatures as well. All Hope drains from the survivor’s face. They give in and complete their transformation. Suddenly, their head gets blown off into tons of bloody pieces. Coming into frame, a tall man in a cybernetic suit walks forward. The camera pans upward and we see him. The motherfucking Doom Guy. He cocks his shotgun and the closing credits begin to fade in and out while a long tracking shot plays of Doom Guy blowing the shit out of demons until he stands upon a mountain of demonic corpses, relishing in his rampage, And the screen cuts to black.
Omg Adam read my comment?? ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Senpai noticed me 😂😂 All jokes aside though I love that the three of you are doing this, I watch all of you individually and enjoy your content. It’s really weird to have something I said get through to you though, to the listener it feels like you’re in a room talking to us and we can participate in the conversation, but for you it must be like a deluge or cascade of feedback with each comment a tiny drop in the onslaught. I don’t know I always find that thought strange... The movie was Shakespearean? So it had cookie cutter farcical characters, was filled with jokes that appeal to the lowest common denominator, and was meant to be a blunt and on the nose commentary on topical issues? I got very off topic... And watch Nausica Valley of the Wind - it was Miyazaki’s second movie and still my favourite so far
The "too many cooks" and "this house has people in it" (the one with the girl falling from the floor) on adult swim are part of their infomercials series, and both are directed by alan resnick. You guys should really check him out. (btw i love your podcast so much!!
