I would eat at Jacobs Place before I ate Across the Street. For Starters Jacobs is Open Now...people go to Restaurants out of Convenience. The Most important Part of a Business is the Location. We All know why your Mother in law business is Not making a Profit...but it could make a Profit if Done Differently. The problem with a Sari Sari store is the Mark up value. There is not a large Margin for profit based on the cost of living in the Philippines. Here in the U.S. if a Store sells a item for $2 usd and a Store close sells it for $2.25 then people are going to spend the Extra .25 cents out of Convenience
Chris, You've just mentioned in this video or vlog that a traditional Philippine "sari---sari store is a waste of time and a money pit when you own one of them. But I think if you invest in true, real and genuine Western---style 7---Eleven,Circle K and Mac's convenient stores,I think,7---Eleven,Mac's and Circle K convenient stores are always profitable when they are open for business/businesses and it doesn't matter where they do or operates their businesses either in the West and in third---world countries. And most of all.I totally agreed with you that if you also invest in rental real estate properties like when you builds single homes, town houses and condominiums and apartments as well as duplex homes then the result is that you and your immediate family members will make tons of profits because residential homes are always in---demand in the Philippines ( The "Paris of Asia" specially during the Spanish times and American rule, occupation and period.) and also simply because of its high population.Just to let you know,A lot of people in the West or the Western World thinks that all people in the Philippines ( And It's More,More and More Fun in the Philippines!!!) are poor/extremely poor when in fact,There are actually many, many and many of our fellow Filipinos that are financially---stable and can always afford to buy and rent all kinds of modern and up---scale residential homes.
Too start up , Sell only the basics. Like Canned goods , noddles , Cellphone load , condiments like cooking oil , a few eggs , personal things like toothpaste , deodorant , Cigarettes , few sodas , crackers , liquor sells at night . If you are near a school , some school supplies , xerox copier .less of the perishable food.
Are you sure your information is correct I've been to the Philippines over a dozen times in the past 5 years and I see the same sari-sari stores still in business.
My GF S S Store does about 1k a day.. We set it up with a fridge and a nice paint job and she competes with 4 other stores very close by. She has plenty of variety, good stock and cooks now and then.. Unfortunately long hours.
That's great. I am in no way knocking the accomplishment. But for a foreigner, that's really wasting time. Sales of $20 (1k pesos) per day in really not worth it. Minus supplies and overhead, that leave very little, less than $5 (assuming 25%). If you calculate in terms of dollars per hour for your GF and/or employee, that would be less than $0.50/hr or 25p/hr. (at 10 hours per day). Probably good money in the Philippines, but not for the foreigner.
i have always wanted to do something like this start a sari sari store its not just the initial out lay but all the other unexpected factors ie relatives ,people open beside you ,putting in the time
A Filipino Aussie friend of mine was able to purchased a property in Coron ,near his relatives residence , and now his making money out of it via AIRBNB , even if he's based in Melbourne .
right on chris no peso in a sari sari store people want credit, relatives take stuff which they never pay for, I'm not saying all relatives are like that but if your margins are small how are you gonna get capitol for a case of cokes if brother anjo who you been after for the past 2 weeks to pay his 500 peso store credit hasn't paid up.
I agree, unless you are in a major area, on a major busy street, with little competition, a sari sari is a sorry idea! Then these people who open up the same business across the street from someone who is established in the area, are complete fools and bankrupt. Dah! They might as well just use the money to burn and cook a meal on the fire because they will get more out of the money that way than to try to win over someone etablished and cheaper. Although I would go to the better laundry place because if someone ruined my clothes or lost them they would be hurting real quick! I am 6'2" @ 250lbs there are not a lot of places there for me to get new clothes. I would be pissed and I am not the guy you want mad at you for many reasons. So maybe the new laundry place will work if they are priced close. I surely would go there if what you say about the laundry place there is what is happenng. Thanks for sharing! Take care and God bless you all. Wish you all the best!
i dont think so,wouldnt be surprised if he is the only one .his place is not frequented by expats ,except possibly for koreans ,indians and chinese . ive been there many times, since my bro lives nearby!
Tiny profit margins on most goods better to have accommodation or food business in Philippines that's the way my heads thinking, everyone needs a place to sleep and eat common sense really.
Mel's mom works lots hours cooking selling I'm sure. She does get alot of business though. Maybe up prices on meals seems to cheap what she sells foods for there. Very cheap
Your Mother in law does good business with her Chicken. I would think her Chicken would make more money if she Served Chicken Dinners..Chicken Rice..and a Drink for all 1 price...Pilipinos love to see Words like...SPECIAL...HALF OFF...DISCOUNT...BUY ONE GET 1 FREE...
@@samual3006 Yes.You are totally correct or right, stephen shore!!! Brian---The Philly in the Philippines and his dear Filipina wife 'Lot---Lot's" 'sari---sari" store is profitable because the location of their convenient store is along a busy road with lots of foot traffic!!!
My sister-in-law on the sari sari store. It seems like they keep on asking my wife for more and more money. I keep on telling them to close the store down.
I agree, too many of those stores. It is sad that there are so many that fail. I think it could work if one was actually living in it as one's house,..no matter what, they are still paying the rent for work and living. I thnk I would open a mustard shop! lol,...really just kidding! Great Video!
