White savior mentality. If Europe hadn’t colonized India, the poverty that prompted this story may not have happened. Put it in context.
@roberthoward6590

I agree but feel that Saroo's biological mother is also a great hero. She had to cope with abandonment, descent into poverty where she had to raise four children on her own. It is hard to fathom the pain of losing two of her children on a single night. Nonetheless she supported herself and her remaining two children and was even able to send them to school. Her daughter Shikela became a teacher and her other son has a successful professional career. She is a monumentally successful human being being by any standard.

GroWiTheFlow I understand the point of view very well. I agree in part to it, because in this case, as I am adopted myself, it’s not a thing of black and white, but I want to give the chance to someone who was less lucky than me to have a better life. You can literally adopt in any part of the world cause in any part of the world there are abandoned kids with different stories, but a lot of the times you are limited even from your own state politic. At the end I want to say that they saved a life and not an Indian boy this is what adoptive families do. Not everybody stop themselves to look at the surface.

@@roberthoward6590 Agree totally. The values the resourcefulness the courage the moral compass and the intuition. Saroo knew when to flee well before he could have understood why. Gudu was a great brother too. Sue and John B lovely people and really lucky with Saroo. Not so lucky with the other lad whom one assumes was psychically damaged in a similar incident to those we saw Saroo escape from . His Indian mother is at the very top of a cast of wonderful people.

Hey Emma, you're right even after 4 years of the movie coming issues like this are much worse in India, as Indian I can also tell you how widely they are known in the Indian society, there are thousands of organization working here on it from all around the world but the problems couldn't seems to have gone or even going away anytime soon.

@@cheriepynk8259 It is very well known to everyone here in India that there are certain small gangs in the cities who steals such small kids for a very unofficial, illegal, and very much organized business where they manipulate such kids and throw them into begging or working as labors in illegal work environments, and they take a share of whatever they earn. Why kids though?Kids are easily manipulable as well as easy to get the sympathy of others. If you read about it you'll know that even after being kidnapped these little kids are made or trained or whatever you say to their masters that they are far from being saved out of this. This is why foreigners visit India for the first time they are advised not to give a single amount of money to these kids beggars or beggars in generals because it is only gonna have more beggars like those.

Gosh the human race messes with my head but we MUST look after the worlds kids, it's sooooo important. Yeah. 'Threatened' adoptive parents are the norm it seems... My sneaking suspicion is that's why certain people choose to adopt internationally rather than domestically. :/
@spysmom2
@spysmom2 7 лет назад
I disagree. I am the mother of two international adoptees, and I have several friends who have also adopted internationally. The reason that people adopt internationally are many, but I don't know anyone who would have any problem with their children searching for their birthparents. I've been in facebook and yahoo groups with many parents who have paid great sums of money to find their children's original families. It can be very expensive, due to the fact we would have to hire someone who reads and speaks the language and can travel to the country and search for records. Everyone I know is completely vested in their children and will do anything they can to help their kids do what they need to gain closure and understanding of their birth family.

Such good, sweetness in this world. Proving that "Fairy Tales" do come true, once again. Love to see a story of "goodness" is out in the world and I know this one of SO many, yet these are the stories NOT told or that you never hear about. In my humble opinion, we all need to hear more news of "good", worthy events precisely of this nature. Despite best efforts otherwise, it reminds us of how much goodness there is in the world, going on now, even today in 2021. I have had the opportunity of being in situations that give me first hand knowledge of how good people are so I love this. Great story, so happy for everyone involved and thank you so much for sharing it with us all. Blessed are we!

I saw a video about saru s mother just published in that video the lady was shown in her house and telling she works as a maid in other people's house for her expenses and saru contacted and helped her during the first year they met but after that he had not contacted . I was deeply saddened to see that . The poor lady was not complaining she was happy for his son but I was thinking that what was the reason behind all that . Was it fame a thrill and just that . The real purpose after the reunion should be the welfare of his family. He is famous now but the family in India is in the same situation I did not expect that from a son who was so desperate to find his family

Samreen Amir I wanted to comment here as there is a lot of misinformation - incomplete information - about his current relationship with his Indian family. A lot of trash-sensational media have accused him of cutting off support of his indian family after one year and "disowning" them. Once again garbage media handpicks facts to support sensational paper-selling stories with no care how it affects individuals. Here is the truth after approx one year why he is materially less involved with his Indian mom/family-- he is respecting his Indian moms wishes. For those "ragging" on him for not taking care of his mom after one year, please get the whole story. His mother refuses his help. He had to practically force her into the new home he bought the family. His mom didn't want to leave the village. His Indian mom has very old school views. He is respecting her wishes. He is practically forcing her to take 100 AUD per month and she doesn't want to take that. (Which at her pay rate basically doubles her income as a maid). You have to put yourself in her shoes. She may have a huge sense of guilt that her 2 sons, just kids, goto work in a train yard sweeping and that same day, neither comes back. She may have said they needed to work to keep the family up and running without a dad....and that causes their death/missing. Non present fathers there mean the young males have to work. Or you don't eat. Living with that guilt all these years is probably huge and then to have the son show up that you didn't support for all those years suddenly trying to support you that could be mentally too much for her to deal with and be totally divergent with her moral values, and how she was raised, and what she deeply believes. Us westerners can't understand that very well - most of us have never thankfully had to go through anything like that but that type of life shapes their minds and how they think. So you have to take a moment and look at it from her point of view and her son that she mostly never took care of, that she was "supposed" to take care of, was unable to afford an education for, suddenly taking care of her may be incredibly difficult for her to deal with. It may double the guilt she has probably lived with. He has tried his best to help them -- all she wants is his love and presence in her life. Since the reunion he has visited her 18 times as of a year ago, approx 5 times a year....and that's not an easy place to get to, it takes time and effort and expense. And that's all she wants. She has made that abundantly clear. I am sure just that simple love is all she can mentally deal with. She has stated she just want his presence in her life and he is doing his absolute best to do that. If you can afford it, and his family can, giving people material things is easy. Taking the time from his already established adult life to go back and forth 5 times a year to spend time with his Indian mom demonstrates a real caring and respectful son. After a frustrating year of trying to materially help his mom and having her not accept it he discovered all she really wanted is a relationship with him and he is going above and beyond to make her happy. He's shown to be a thoughtful and caring man. Very lucky to be raised by his adoptive parents they obviously instilled some real values in him. Notice how he really doesn't talk about what I just wrote about, he feels his Indian moms wishes are private to her and respects her culture and way of thinking. I just wanted ppl to understand the real aftermath story before anyone believes and spreads what trash media makes up to make money. I have seen comments in other videos with ppl "comment crucifying" him for the "awful way he treats his Indian family". He couldnt possibly treat them with anymore love and respect than he currently is. There isn't a dark side to this no matter how much junk media wants there to be. Its a real story of love and drive.

livingabovethe12th You’re comment is very well written. That is the problem with today’s people. They take bias perspective from media as facts. Then suddenly they become experts and strongly opinionated as they are the most righteous people around.
