Savarkar was at best be described as a cultural nationalist. He wanted the nation to assimilate. Just because he wrote an apology, who knows it could well be tactical under duress, he can not be labelled as coward. Death sentence mark the end of life, so the thoughts that comes to one against death sentence vs one who was kept in solitary confinement for life. He came out with mercy petitions and carried out his work.
