SAS was founded in 1946 as a consortium to pool the transatlantic operations of Svensk Interkontinental Lufttrafik, Det Norske Luftfartselskap and Det Danske Luftfartselskab. The consortium was extended to cover European and domestic cooperation two years later. In 1951 all the airlines merged to create SAS (Scandinavian Airlines). Today Scandinavian Airlines is headquartered in Stockholm in Sweden, and the airline operates 138 aircrafts to more than 100 destinations!
Scandinavian Airlines is also one of the founding members of Star Alliance, which is the world’s largest global airline alliance, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
