I served with Tommy Tobin. In the ACC at 7 Para RHA. He was a great bloke came from Fulham. Had been Junior RSM at the JTR ACC. before he came to 7 RHA. Then he went on to Hereford. One of the best looking and smartest soldiers I ever saw. RIP Tommy.
@@OGvibes-tq6zl Thank goodness too. To think someone deems it necessary to virtue signal their wokeness on this topic of such heroism and sacrifice by these 2 brave men... Shamefull. One assumes such behaviour is now deemed brave in this modern, progresssive, society.
I have been to the Oman, and visited the area of the Battlefield at Mirbat, for 9 men to hold off and finally defeat hundreds was nothing short of miraculous. The SAS men involved deserve their countries highest award.
I was just watching about the Battle of Mirbat, they are all heroes. Back then they couldn't get the Victoria Cross because it was a secret war. But now, they deserve the medals they should have been awarded but couldn't.
I met Pete winner "soldier I" only last night (50 cal and wally op B sqn mirbat) he speaks in high regard for those that fought there but not of himself. Very modest man.
There is a statue of Talaiasi Labalaba (Laba) at the Nadi International Airport in Fiji unveiled about two years ago by Prince Harry. Its also reported there is a statue of Laba at a SAS base in the UK.
Went to a very personal presentation (60 people) given by "soldier I" the 50 cal gunner at Mirbat and also first in the building at the Iranian embassy siege. A very modest man who talks of heroics we would crumble under with respectful matter of fact attitude. First read his book 20 years ago and so glad to have shook his hand.
My Father in law was Stan Standford who did the Helo Casevac with Neville Baker, sadly Stan was killed in a Helo accident in the mountains of Salalah in 1979 and is buried at Mina Al Fahal cemetary in Muscat. My wife who was very young when all this happened only found out about Stans involvement when Roland White wrote a book called Storm Front and mentioned Stan, We now live and work in Kuwait and have done for the past 18 years and visit his grave in Oman whenever we can. Thank you Roger Cole I must now get your book.
I have never understood why these magnificent soldiers were not recognized by the award of the VC . Their were other gallant acts in this battle that were not recognized namely the second Fijian who went to aid his friend
Went to St Martin's yesterday. Beautiful and inspiring place. Would be interested to know who is responsible for laying three different coloured, new fresh flowers in the same arrangement for every SAS headstone?
What the SaS did this day is nothing short of miraculous the bravery to run into a hail of bullets to try and save your friends the utter strength to man a gun that takes 4-6 people to operate and just start laying down rounds. the discipline to hold your fire when 400 enemy are bearing down on you knowing you are just 9 men and then to actually repel the attack, i understand why VC were not awarded but my god some common sense should prevail here these warriors earned that honour and then some.
Yes they were 56 omani troops . But they were on a patrol and not in the town at the time of the attack. 300 men attacked the town itself and the other 100 were the ones firing mortars at the defenders.
Just read of another SAS battle from 1944 in North Italy, where 33 SAS kept 6000 Germans and Italians down to stop an invasion. And the SAS won and suffered no losses. That is 1:181 ratio.
This is why our lads and women are the worlds very best , the British are very reserved about saying thanks to the personal forces , yet why wait until 11/11 to say thank you, out there are men and women who served gave all , what would it take for you to just say thank you for your service
politicans they never change only when they think there is something in it for them they do somethting these 2 deserve the VC so do the other 7 no argument no question just do it.
We the people salute u and your mates.. forever heroes! We'd only need 1 with their hands tied behind their back to make short work of those traitors un parliament!
maker man in that case let's not have elections ; let's just have the Tory party in power all the time.the result will be no NHS , no union rights and no minimum wage etc.I'm left wing and love the British army
