Books are always better. The book upon which this series is based is way better as it goes into far more detail. As an example, in the selection episode, the accounts are way more brutal. One guy had his smock ripped up for a joke on the escape and invasion phase. Another soldier started taking the piss so the training staff removed one of his boots and he had to do that phase with just one boot. He passed

Mad hard intelligent bastards. Who dares wins Rodders who dares wins. I’m not the biggest fan of what Westminster gets the British army to do but I’m a big fan of the SAS. The fitness, focus, mental & physical fortitude in my opinion is 2nd to none. A perfect balance of everything but borderline crazy and some will go over the edge because at the end of the day the shit they do must take its toll on the human body and mind. Total respect lads ✊🏿

I haven't got feeling in my feet but it was a job that needed to be done so I did it well.. different breed these fellas. Those strange island folk who enjoy living out of a Bergen. And the Colombian jobs are some of uk special forces darkest secrets. They absolutely played farc and the narcos like fiddles with a lot of help from the spooks who got ex regiment lads to train the narcos so they had excellent intelligence. And those pilots who were gonna fly the c 130s and the chopper pilots who got "lost on a weather reconnaissance mission" and ended up in Chile had big brass balls. And fair play to Chile, Pinochet was an animal but a British trained animal

Disagree with Pinochet being an animal. - he saved Chile from two wars : from a civil war with the marxists and from Argentina. You enjoy the advantage that live in an island and any enemies were far away, not 40 miles across the mountains. - Allende government was ready to trigger a civil war to preserve power. Even the poor bastard (may he remain in hell forever) was not democratically elected, he was decided by congress from a tie. - If Pinochet wouldn’t have the guts to save Chile, most likely wouldn’t have been born, as my father would’ve died in civil war. - Pinochet handed Chile back to democracy with a clean and rising economy, with zero debt to foreign nations. But what can I tell to a Brit about history? You people used Indians and Africans to build your legacy and wealth from your dominions, right? Then your asses were kicked by America when Britain taxed them for the tea exports and waged war on them, right? So the heck you talk about animals anyway? Probably you are leftist. Read the black book of communism comrade.

There was real sadness when news of the Sea King disaster came in, 20 of our best soldiers drowned in a sinking helicopter, one which was supposed to be able to float on the surface of the sea! Of that less than 600 were infantry of which 2 Para fought two of the 3 defending companies and these were in platoon positions which were spread out over the length of the isthmus. The rest of the garrison played no part. The speaker is full of crap.

i have to say how incredible the work done by brit fighting men and fighter pilots in the falklands were... but its just as bewildering as to why the british military was so ill equipped for anti air work... was it hubris, ignorance, lack of funds or something im missing?... there was period equipment available... was this a problem NATO wide? im not judging or blaming, im trying to understand what the problem was.... the ships had naval dual purpose guns and SAM's right? the amphib landing forces had MANPADS or forward air defense assets right? i completely comprehend the threat and effect of exocets launched by Super Etendards, but from what i understand the majority of damaged ships ( and of course ground assets) came from lower tech dumb bombs, rockets, and cannon from A-4 Skyhawks, Pucaras, and Mirage derivatives ( i believe called Daggers / Fingers or something)... if anyone can explain what the issue was id enjoy hearing it.. im no expert but i am interested...
@loyalist5736
@loyalist5736 3 года назад
Yeah the Royal Navy was set up in this period to hunt Soviet submarines for NATO as the Cold war was still on going and mainly relied on the USA for air cover ...as for ships getting bombed by dumb bombs hpthere was lots of factors. .The struggled with radar clutter operating close to land ..dident have any early warning radar assets to give them for warning of attacks. ..the best asset they had for killing there airforce was the harrier .They had manpads but they were not that good ...could go on for ever but 8000miles from home was a major factor. But thankfully the RN can project power again .

@@loyalist5736 yeah i get lessons were learned from this ( by all nations) like the development of helicopter born AEW platforms and etc... and yeah obviously harrier was their best asset but i was more questioning the standard equipment they already had specifically for AA work and why it was so ineffective... i heard somewhere else that navy troops got so desperate they pulled out GPMG's and strapped em to the sides of the ships to shoot at the A4's...but yeah i didnt think of the clutter of close land and rock formations interfering with radars meant to be used on open seas...although i still thought they had some amount of dual purpose capability seeing as one of the Royal Navy's main purposes is naval support to ground forces... i guess the answer to my question is just that this shit had to be worked out in actual combat zones and mistakes had to be paid in blood... just like CAS in desert storm led to friendly fire...
@loyalist5736
@loyalist5736 3 года назад
@@arcadianlhadattshirotsughW33Z Well the British have learnt the hard way many times in war and paid a high price in blood because of penny pinching MPs ,,a couple type 42s were lost in the war and you can take a look back to when they were built and to save money they shorten the length which had the consequence of of not having early Warning radar and other systems that could have helped in the Falklands War...As I say being a ASW navy and leaving other duties to your friends and allies is great but when the shit hits the fan and you have to go it alone like the Brits in the Falklands you have a major problem.

It was simple complacency, thinking the only threat was the Soviets. Fact is, in 1982, all 3 Heads of Service and CoS were WW2 veterans, all would have known about barrage balloons (some were still in storage) and flak ships for anti-air defence. Yet we had ships with single GPMGs firing 0.303 rounds at incoming jets, 1/8th of the firepower of a Spitfire.

The SAS's presence in Colombia made no difference whatsoever in the grand scheme of things, + that's nothing to do with, they're the best there is but their mission objective did nothing to reduce the production, or the flow of drugs, into the US. Soon after Escobar's death it was shown that more drugs were entering America than ever before. This was, of course, entirely in keeping with most operations carried out in the name of the 'War on Drugs', in so much as it was a total failure. To this day, Britain persists with a drug policy that when considered it simply defies all logic + reason. For over 60 years, one gutless + unworthy government after the other, continues with a policy that at no time has ever been anything other than a complete + staggeringly expensive, failure. In spite of drugs being readily available all over Britain, on we go with the same prohibition policy, why is that??? Personally, I think the answer is obvious, millions of pounds of un-taxed dosh floating about + no people in high places are trousering any of it??? I don't believe that for a second, I have no evidence, of course I don't I'm just an average bloke, however, the facts are clear. Britain is full of drugs, never mind the war on them, that's all bullshit + say what you like, it isn't working, there are drugs everywhere, ffs! I believe there are secure channels that drugs come into Britain through, guaranteed safe passage + money in the bank. I'd be more surprised if that wasn't going on, is that level of corruption too hard to imagine??? Sadly, not for me it isn't, it helps to explain how ineffective legislation has proven to be, + don't forget the cost. It always is forgotten, though, the whole issue is never discussed rationally. Decriminalisation, for example, makes perfect sense to all but the drug-dealers + reactionary types who object so strongly about an issue they have such little understanding of. Anyway, nothing will change, fortunes will continue to be made, + continue to be spent, taxpayer's money spent yet some folks get rich. Britain's drug laws make them illegal, but they're easily obtainable, none the less.......... Talk a good game, but in reality it's all a big lie, just another lie.............

Its not "informative". Its complete horseshit. The usual SAS trying to reinvent history. Mikado and Plum Duff were a complete shit show. Mikado because it was a suicide mission with zero chance of success. One senior sergeant resigned and the squadron leader relieved under protest about the mission. Plum Duff was the usual SAS attempt to recreate their WW2 glamor. The helicopter crew and the SAS patrol could not agree on their drop off location. The helicopter crew couldnt seem to sink the chopper... Nobody had the slightest clue about the operation of the airbase...or even if the exsocets were there.
