Gave me an uncanny sense of recall of the time of feudal lords and Samurai warriors. Sometimes your videos are like time machines to me. Thank you for the trip back! Gassho 🙏🏼

I had really have to smile hearing this special Sukinkutsu. When I visited the former residence of the emperor in Nikko I could hear the small stream nearby in many rooms. That's when I realised what's the real luxury feature of it was. 😊😊

Japanese garden designers make small bumps in a stream on purpose so that we can hear the sound of the stream from everywhere in the garden actually. They also design the sound.

ArigatO. Looks like a time when things were slow quiet and measured flowing like water

Beautiful and fascinating! Everything is so pristine. As the previous viewer mentioned (“bobsamurai”), the suikinkutsu is wonderful- every garden should have one! And the Inari shrine is indeed photogenic. Thank you so much!

There are two sound effect devices in Japanese garden. One is Suikinkutsu, literally water harp cave and the other is Shishiodoshi, sound of hitting bamboo. Sound is also important part of the beauty.

I love how the stones and paths are overgrown with moss and other greenery. I've been watching pre-WWII Japanese movies lately, do you know of any that were shot in historical or destroyed places? It would be interesting if the original Sasayama castle was once a movie set. Thanks for sharing this beautiful location and your insight on the history of its components, like the construction background and the Suikinkutsu.

Thank you for watching. Actually I’m not sure about lost buildings existing in the movie. But Kyoto used to be called Japanese Hollywood. Most the movie studios were in Kyoto and most samurai movies were shot in Kyoto actually. And Kyoto was not bombed in the WW2 because it is so precious. So you can visit the same place as the locations of prewar movies.
