A clip from my documentary film "Charging the Rhino". It deals, in part, with the greatest bank robbery under Communism. One of the robbers was my cousin Sasha. For the story, visit: www.simchajtv.c...
Hi Simcha, my family is from the largest Sephardic community in Romania from Bucharest. We were called Evrei De Rit Spaniol in Romania. Most of my family moved to Israel in the 40s and eventually became Israelis. My grandparents spoke Ladino as well as my great uncles and aunts. Sadly I was never able to learn much about the community because my grandparents passed away when I was young and I had no interest back then in my roots. Today it’s something I think about all the time and wish I knew more. Have you ever done any research on the Spanish Jews from Romania? Today the only link left I have to Bucharest is the Spanish cemetery where all my relatives from the past few hundred years are buried every single one of them excluding my grandparents and parents. I am so eager to learn more about them and what this community was like. I feel as though a part of me is missing and I wish I could turn back the time and ask my grandparents all the questions I have today. Of course I learned many things from parents but I still feel there is so much more missing from my heritage I simply don’t know. What I do know is we were member of Cahal Cicu the small synagogue and my great grandparents were merchants. Please if you know anything about the Sephardim in Romania I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you kindly. שנה טובה
I seem to recall seeing part if not all of this film years back (on NA) in a lead up to tragic themes in history or the like ... is there a complete documentary in the works or is it fini !
