She is without a doubt one of the greatest skaters of all time. Sasha to date is still unmatched. Sasha is the essence of elegance and style is all about in this sport. Sasha is and always has been a 10. she is perfect!!!!
@@billy.7113 LMAOOO. Alina is just a jumping robot, especially compared to THE Sasha Cohen. Alina is not artistic in the slightest. Her “Swan Lake” is an insult to all of figure skating and ballet. Alina resembles a crow drowning in a pond.
I think Sasha was at her best under Tarasova. Robin Wagner just inherited the work that was already done by Tarasova that season. This program and the magnificent sp "Malagueña" were choreographed by Tarasova. John Knicks fostered Sasha's talent, but Tarasova made her the complete package. I wish she had stayed with Tatiana. Maybe she would have won a world title and Olympics if she had, but we'll never know.
+MissThingSings I agree that she choked often and was woefully inconsistent (I don't see how anybody could argue with that), but consistency doesn't really have anything to do with being the complete package as a skater. Daisuke Takahashi was the complete package, but he was inconsistent too. And John Nicks is a great coach, just not on the same level as Tarasova. Robin Wagner is not a great coach. Sarah Hughes was her only star pupil, and she was a fluke with understated jumps and a god awful flutz. I agree that Sasha was probably a diva though. Even John Nicks said that she was head-strong and liked to get her way. I think she'll still go down as one of the greats though because she was very memorable. People still talk about her. She just won't go down as one of THE greatest of all time, a select group. She will most likely be remembered as a great artist and possibly the most talented skater of all time who could just not put it together (along with her flexibility and spirals of course).
Exactly. I just posted before I read this that Tarasova never got her full credit. What she did with Sasha was just the best example of talent meeting Genius
I agree . However Sasha was memorable & that is what is important and lasting. Memories stay of such exquisite beauty on ice, whereas some Olympic champions are unmemorable. True artists are inconsistent. Baiul also was flawed , but artistically she was truly memorable.
Sasha's lack of consistency in her jumps prevented her from being THE greatest female skater in history. One national title won(only after Michelle Kwan retired) with many 2nd place finishes in worlds and of course the Olympics wasn't what she hoped for. An outstanding short program skier-one of the best. Nerves, lack of concentration, whatever, was her nemesis in the long. That being said, I adore her skating and although lament the world championships and Olympic gold that evaded her and that she was more than capable of winning, am grateful for what she did give us-skating that took your breath away with its sheer beauty. A bit of a cliche, but the definitive ballerina on ice. She had no equal in that regard and doubt she ever will.
I've forgotten how wonderful Sasha's skating was. Thank you for uploading this. I miss the good older days of amazing names like Sasha and Michelle Kwan. Brings back good memories and of my own time on the ice. :)
she’s insanely talented and confident. i need to get back to skating, its a passion of my life. i miss this every day and watching this makes me even emotional
I know jack all about the world of figure skating but this mesmerized me and made me quietly gasp and beam as I watched it. And I think that means it's really amazing!
Pretty sure that's my dad whistling at the end 🤣 I am so fortunate to have seen this live. Sasha is undoubtedly my favorite skater of all time. Her partnership with Tarasova produced the most magical programs. So glad they paired up!
И трибуны встали, завороженные мастерством и эмоциями Саши Коен. Публика сопереживала и с избытком получила ощущение счастья. Эти мгновения повторились через десять лет и подарила их нам Юля Липницкая. Высокое искусство способно творить чудеса.
Such a wonderful skater. Sucks that the commentator had to say "she has never beaten Michelle Kwan". Because there were many times and performances prior to 2003 that Sasha definitely deserved to beat her but got short changed by the judges.
Buggerbeef I always thought she was better than Michelle. Michelle got boring doing the same moves over and over and always had that look on her face. Sasha did fall on jumps, but Michelle could not pull off the triple triples jumps like the girls up and coming . When Michelle would win she would pull on her ears to the camera and when she didn't she wouldn't even acknowledge the fans.
Sadie Deveau Sasha couldn’t pull off the triple triples either, let alone pull off clean triples. Michelle reached into the souls of the spectators, whereas Sasha wowed them. While simpler, Michelle did pull off the triple toe, triple toe several times at worlds to win.
This is from 2003, and it wasn't focused on as much in the old scoring system. So many changed edge at the last second that I doubt the judges were even scoring down on it let alone the commentators commenting about it.
i get a little board with the figure skating moves, but she is an all around great skater, she has so much balance and gets so much from her outside edge on backwards crossovers she is a joy to watch skate -- id like to see her convert to the free skating crowd -- and do big jumps over flaming logs, and stuff like that!
Beautiful program! Her spin positions were wonderful. Loved her costume with the Swan Lake music. I admit I was not a fan of Sasha's back in the day, but upon further review, she really was a wonderful, graceful skater! Still think Michelle's spiral was better though.
I just heard that Putin attacked Sasha’s homeland of her mother . I just don’t know what she’s thinking of this right now. I’m extremely saddened for her and her family.
DARREN MONTY You have to understand that sport is about beating your rivals and as a rising talent, Michelle Kwan was the woman to beat at the time. They were just remarking on the importance to rise above Kwan in order to get gold.
