When i see this man i am so thankful i have been living in best times of music history and experience it 98-04 (unfortunately to young for clubs back then). When i listen to his 99-02 sets i feel perfection. I hope some day he will write a book about his carrer. There have been djs who played better music, but Sasha was always the nr. 1 when it comes to technic and for me he was always the definition of cool. It feels also easier to be aging when seing your heroes aging too and appriciating what you had in your life :)
Old enough to remember Sashas New Years Eve at Universe Pleasure Planet Swansea, Wales, UK 1991/1992 - that is iconic - long time fan and whole hardheartedly agree. I am lucky to be a little older and that rave in the 90s is my goto happy place :-) - now wishing I was aboard this amazing looking boat party though, looks fantastic. in the wise words of the great MC Joe Peng, "Britains number one most wanted DJ"
A very good evening from Dublin, Ireland. Your set in Index Nightclub was special, and thank you so much for signing the Vinyl I brought with me and the photo. A true Legend.
Loved hitting the big clubs way back in 90s-2000 where in places like Cream Liverpool he always used to draw a big crowd from far and wide . especially when he was playing back to back with Digweed 😍😍
celebrated his 30th birthday with himself n digweed in space....what a night with 2 great buddies.....amazing set....stood behind the dj booth all night n when they were finished digweed n his wife sat in our area...sound out....
Doh! I thought "is this what it's come to? A crappy barge on a river?". And then the camera panned round. Oops. Hail king sasha. The original "son of god". The original "king of the UK".
Get that guy with the wipe towel outta here. lol Sasha's like - give me that let me do it. Now buzz off. I keep thinking is this guy with the wipe towl going to keep doing that through the entire set? They should have erected a canvas over the top of the booth.
That was very odd. The guy is wearing a Void t-shirt but doesn't seem to have much experience as a DJ or working with the equipment. The fourth channel is raised whereas the others are not. Wipe all three of them down, mate.
Hahaha I noticed that too. Sasha was "kid you are gonna mess with the faders or the players anytime if you keep doing that, gtfo". And them the mate of the kid seems to tell him " here, you missed a spot" lol. Ridiculous
Absolutely, that night was the best I've ever seen him, and I've been privileged to witness many epic Sasha sets over the past 23 years. He always gets up for Fabric. Special club and a very special DJ
Do you recall the guys with whistles back in the day? At least here in SouthAmerica it was a big thing. Sorta annoying but kinda cool when it blended with the tune. Unlike this Navajo Indiian woman chant lol.
Is it still 2004? This music is now starting to sound extremely old fashioned. The equivalent of grandad playing his 1950 rock n roll records in the 1980s. Same old trance beat and arps - yawn. Sasha is still an iconic dj, I used to go his club nights back in the early 1990s when he was pioneering up in the air piano house. But he now needs to experiment with new sounds. Perhaps world influences, more off beat rhythms, a bit of jazz. I dunno, anything…
When he started playing house music or soulful house it made me realize he lost his way. He lost his way after 2005 ish. IMO But.. I've been waiting for him to come back again. Fact remains tracks from the 90's earliy 2000's still trump most tracks released today. I've been waiting for music to come out of him that is equal to or rivals the Xpander EP for ages. And sets that are equal to his GU series releases.
Bit of jazz...jesus..Progressive Trance and House still fresh, because it is experimental too. Afro trance house mixing world music, but not everyone like oriental music. You wont see that on other styles like dubstep, d&b, grime, hardcore, techno shit. They are restricted to old 90-80ies. Even psydub started attenuate.
Good comments. When I say jazz I'm perhaps visualizing slightly looser drum programming, more experimentation and variation on the (now) quite mainstream sounding 4x4 808 drum patterns and preset minor chord arps. Anyone with scaler 2 and ableton can play these patterns - we now need more engaging sounds and ideas. Moving on from the Big Brother trance style sound track. I'm still a fan of Sasha - air draw dagger was.a masterpiece as was the Expander ep - but this set sounds like it was mixed in the same year, that is 2004. It's nearly 2024 FFS.
