Hi Yelile, thanks for your question. The sarashi fabric usually has selvages on both sides, so you don't need to sew them. Hi Xiaoxiao, thank you so much for your videos. They are really lovely & easy to follow! Thanks to you i have just finished my first hana fukin. ^^ Could i ask you for advice? I am planning to make a handkerchief for my friend, however using 2 layers like Hana fukin is a bit heavy (to me) for a handkerchief. Should i use 1 layer of sarashi to make a handkerchief? What would you do?.. Thank you in advance
Hi Trang, thank you so much for your message! I’m really happy that you are enjoying sashiko! :) I would say using two layers of sarashi would be ideal, because it hides the extra thread. One layer may make the hanafukin too fragile. If you use sarashi with sashiko thread your hanafukin should turn out softer and lighter after a couple of washes. And the more you use and wash it the nicer it feels. Another suggestion I can give you is: I sometimes make quarter sized hanafukin for myself and my friends, I found they are practical, because they don’t take much space in a small purse. I would also put their initial on it if it’s a gift. :) if you check out my community posts or Instagram, you should be able to find these mini hanafukins. :) hope I answered your question.
