Go check out Jason's channel ‪@PrimalOutdoors‬!
Jason's van known as "Sasquatch" had the belt tensioner mounting bolt snap off, leaving him stranded in the mountains. Since the end of the bolt was still stuck in his engine block, he decided it would be easier to fix it at his shop instead of attempting a field repair. So I took the ‪@zackliftinternational4841‬ up to get him towed out of the woods and back to town.
Be sure to check out our Patreon project where we use whatever it brings in in a month as our budget to help someone the following month! I was never a fan of the Patreon idea until I realized that I can use it to help others instead of myself, so I created the Patreon Project where we can all combine our efforts to make a real difference in people's lives and make the world a better place! I would think you could put transmission and transfer case in neutral instead of removing driveline. Like flat towing, most 4wd rigs can do it.
@johnstark4723
@johnstark4723 8 месяцев назад
Not good for any 4x4 to do that. The oil doesn't get to the bearings in either the trans or transfer case. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. There is a reason owners manuals say to never tow a 4x4 with the drive shaft in.
@ronrosenberg4058
@ronrosenberg4058 8 месяцев назад
Wranglers probably rack up a million miles a year being towed four down.
@CaseyLaDelle
@CaseyLaDelle 8 месяцев назад
Different transfer case have different capabilities and different towing procedures. Not all can be towed in neutral, and very few can be towed with only one end down. 1997 and newer wranglers, and 3rd gen dodge trucks can be flat towed in neutral because the oil pump that lubricates the bearings is being spun by the rear output shaft, and the drive chain the splash lubricates the gears is being spun by the front output shaft. But pick either end up with a tow truck and they are no longer safe to tow because one of their two lubrication methods was just eliminated

Dingus... when I was a kid, I looked "dingus" up in one of those big dictionaries, like one may still find in a library today. Most classrooms had them back then. Anyhoo, unlike smaller editions that may or may not have an inclusive definition, the big one had three! 1. Noun: plural ding·us·es.Informal. a gadget, device, or object whose name is unknown or forgotten. This being the most common word use today 2. US slang : a dim-witted, silly, or foolish person -often used in a joking or friendly way This being the second most common word use today, often making a solid run for first place! As a kid, this definition was by far the most common, lol. Reasons. 3. A man's privates. (Yeah, I thought so too.) This definition appears to be falling out of the current lexicon, and well? Seems weird.

@johnstark4723 8 месяцев назад
@ukmechanic8923 I don't know any responsible tower who would tow without pulling the drive shaft on a 4x4. The two times my truck was towed they used a rollback so they wouldn't have to pull the driveshaft. They don't want to pay for the damage that could be done.
@DB-yj3qc
@DB-yj3qc 8 месяцев назад
The transfer cases that are in many Jeeps are safely flat towed IE: 231, 241, 242, and others by placing in neutral. The front axle is "disconnected" via "CAD or FAD" in a few models/ years. Others were manual hubs. I believe there are other manufacturers that may have some models that can be done the same. The problem is that some people don't actually put transfer case in neutral, but in 4 WD or 2 HI then damage the transmission, ect. When I towed my XJ with 231 for long distance on car dolly, I pulled the rear drive shaft. Better safe than sorry, that was over 8 hours drive no FAD, locked axles, low gears, oversized tires, and lifted. Drove on car dolly with just front driving.

17:22 After the drive shaft fell out, I would've just put it inside the van. If you put that van on the Collins doilies, would you still have to pull the drive shaft?

The driveshaft is what keeps all the oil in the transfer case, and the van is over the weight rating of the Dollie’s

@CaseyLaDelle okay so now you've taught me something else. Thanks for the knowledge on that. When I open my own towing company, I'll have to use the best equipment I can find. This means I'll have to spend thousands of dollars getting what I feel I'm going to need before I open my business.

Do you have the wheel lift attachments for the Zacklift? It seems like wheel lift towing would be much easier for many of the tows you show. How is the insurance rates with the dtu compared with an equivalent capacity dedicated wrecker?

Maxim #37: There is no "overkill." There is only "open fire" and "reload." We need Official Casey LaDelle wooden wheel chocks. "Yours for the low, low price of just 3 easy payments of $19.95 plus $100.00 separate S&H."
