Sasuke lucked out on Orochimaru, Pain simply doesn't let Orochimaru touch him. That discrepancy is enough.

Ppl always forget that Itachi has no stamina cuz of the war arc edo stuff. Itachi would gas out if he was forced to use any of his higher end abilities early. Outside of Obito knowing Nagato's main body secret I'm pretty sure no one at that point narratively can compete with Pain's raw power. Power creep gets goofy during the war arc though

@doodoobuttah It's hard to tell because, in my opinion, because, believe it or not, Itachi uses a decent amount of MS abilities. For example, in Part 1, you could argue he was holding back against Kakashi and Jiraiya and Sasuke and you could argue that Part 1 to Part 2 Itachi got stronger, and by the time he fights Sasuke, he's quote literally just killing himself (he stopped taking his medicine to hold back his illness and he was effectively blind). I counted how many jutsus he used, but I don't remember how many it was, but I was surprised, given how often Itachi is said to have "low stamina." He definitely doesn't have the stamina that Pain, Obito, or Kisame have, but he isn't a slouch, in my opinion.

Sasuke lost to bee even with his whole crew + healz who then lost to kisame who is weaker than pain. Sasuke kind of got beat by that mizukage as well. And yes, he also had zetsu helping him with chakra to keep him going or he would have been going "ugh muh chakra". I also don't consider Danzo that strong if we assume him and the third were of the same generation and the third was clearly stronger than him and yet orochimaru killed him who again is weaker than pain. Both were old effecting their ability...Danzo was even older due to time skip and still gave sasuke trouble...danzo was both older and was originally weaker then a Hiruzen who lost to orochimaru. My confidence in sasuke beating pain is not very high.

@@Virhtue I think it’s because of how insane Payne comes off in the story. It’s hard to imagine him losing for people. At least until it is a clear stomp in Sasuke’s favor. I think it’s psychological, as a reader/ watcher when Payne is fighting no one can hold a candle to him and this makes him feel unstoppable and invincible. Compare this to EMS Sasuke, who is insanely strong, but he is around people who are relative to him or stronger than him. Because of this he feels less imposing than Payne.

The intel they had on pain was more significant and was stated by the toad sage himself that Jiraya's decision to stay and deliver the message to konoha would be essential and effect the course of events. Quite possible they could have lost without the intel. Jiraya's sacrifice for that info was considered essential or at least thats the impression I got from the series as they really stress its importance.

Well kirin isnt really a jutsu you can absorb since its made from actual lightning instead of being chakra based, the chakra is really just to make the lightning be controlled and shaped. If pain can absorb it before its fully shaped sure but after sasuke actually aims it thered be no point to absorbing the chakra cause the actual lightning would still hit you during the absorption

Post watch- definitely a few things I disagree with. For one it seems like certain courtesies are extended to some characters but not to sasuke, example being its fine to think the raikage gets stronger between arcs because hes said and shown to train on screen, but sasuke is also said and shown to train on screen but you say hes no stronger than beginning of shippuden sasuke . You somehow turned sasuke beating orochimaru into a way to downplay sasuke under both sannin and pain tier because pain=~itachi and itachi>oro. The orochimaru "fight" was super brief, it only consisted of the initial chidori spear, sasuke moving in for the kill (if you give sasuke the same generosity you give itachi then he was just waiting for oro to reveal his true form), oros true body escaping, the white snake attacking sasuke and proceeding to get diced, then oro tries to take sasukes body and sasume uses the sharingan reverse card. Imo the only important part was the genjutsu, to me there's little difference in sasuke and itachi's performances against oro. Itachi trapped him in a genjutsu, let him think he got the upper hand then snapped him back into reality. Sasuke used a genjutsu let him think he had the upper hand, then snapped him back into reality and reversed the body takeover. Neither of them broke a sweat during their exchanges, so I don't get how for itachi it's "he crushed oro" and for sasuke it's "he's definitely under sannin tier". When dealing with pain scaling you only use his interactions with the sage mode characters then say sasuke not as strong as them so he'd fare worse, when one could easily use the interactions on the opposite end like the different clans in konoha vs the paths, konohamaru vs Naraka path, or even Kakashi vs the deva path to upscale sasuke since he's the superior fighter to all of them. Even with 5KS Sasuke i do feel like you're giving him a fair shake, especially with the version that fought danzo because I personally feel like that's a stomp. When i cross scale (idk if that the right word but idk) 5ks Sasuke with the same Kakashi he fought then I come to the conclusion that sasuke's susanoo arrows should be pretty much a blitz tier above pain. We see heavily fatigued near death Kakashi be able to not only react to the Shinra tensei amped nail that pain launched, but he had enough time to react to it that he could warp it away almost simultaneously with its would be impact on him to make it seem like it actually hit him, he even physically moves his head back acting like it hit him which shows he can physically react as well. I took this to mean that kakashi is fully capable of straight up blitzing pain via kamui because he can activate kamui, find his target, say "wait for it...wait for it... now!", warp it away then play dead before pain even knows kamui is activated. Fast forward to the kage summit where at the very least Kakashi has a better grasp on kamui then during the pain arc (id argue he is also stronger overall but thats not needed to prove the point), super fatigued near blind sasuke almost blitzes full health fresh on the battlefield Kakashi via susanoo arrow and Kakashi even states that he barely could react and without kamui he'd be dead, meaning it nearly blitzed the guy that was able to both blitz pain and play dead (this point was super long winded, I'm sorry). To add to this I'll bring in konohamaru, he was able to oneshot the naraka path via his rasengan because he caught it off guard. Base naruto was also able to defeat the deva path via rasengan while it was off guard, clearly off guard rasengans are capable of killing any path of pain. The susanoo arrows literally onesh I t danzo, and are superior in strength to a rasengan . If you get blitzed then you are by default off guard, meaning the susanoo arrows are capable of oneshoting any path and are fast enough to blitz it as well. Pain has no answer for susanoo arrows, if sasuke gets the susanoo off pain is at his mercy and if you think he's capable of firing arrows directly after each other then it's low diff.
