so basically we have something called difference of squares when you factorize it you will have the same base but one in positive and the other in negative and in the question they already told us that a plus b is 2 so he replaced it and you can divide by two and then it'll be 16 divided by 2 which is 8 i hope this is clear
problem 16 you are really confusing. It's is very simple: three cases, a=2, a=4 or a=16. For x =2 then b = 16, (16/4= 4 and 2*4=16) . For a=4 then b= 8 (8/4 = 2 and 4^2=16) and finally for a=16 then b=4 (4/4 =1 and 16^1 = 16). So b can be 16, 8 or 4
