OMG, number one is EXACTLY what I would pick. In 1979, I'm 8, stuck at home with chicken pox...stuck at home all week with our one household TV all to myself with my choice of 5 or 6 stations to choose from and stumbled onto this movie and was immediately mesmerized....that image of Satan (forgot about them being alien/locust whatever..ha) shocked and scared me then because the whole film is just beautiful; a real visual piece of art. That image of Satan over the city is burned into my brain. Thanks so much because I could never recall the name of the flick (think I saw it under the title "Five Million Years to Earth")...going to track down a copy to buy right now....number 6 and 5 are also great pics...never saw The Witch but that looks to be right up my alley so I'll get that today as well :) Fantastic list!
How about classy and charming Peter Cook in Bedazzled? Or charismatic, fun Nicholson in The Witches of Eastwick? My favourite has to be Rosalinda Celentano in The Passion of the Christ.
I heavily disagree with the assessment that 'Legend' is "boring". If not for the movie itself. I feel it's worth watching for the cinematography/design and performance of Tim Curry as 'Darkness' alone. Which in my opinion is the best-portrayed devil/Satan in cinema without question, but to each their own. By 1980's standards that costume design was mind blowing and still holds up well today. Although, I agree with your view of Constantine. A pretty underrated movie overall.
I suspect the original theatrical version of Legend would not have been such heavy going. The director's cut my wife and I watched was pure tedium. Granted, Curry as Darkness is great, both in look and performance. And the film is beautiful but did not keep our attention.
Good Review. My ideal of Satan is more Church of Satan Satanism than Devil Worshiping. More Liz Hurley's Satan in Bedazzled, than a theistic identity such as in The Witch or The Temple of Satan
...WHERE HAS THIS CHANNEL BEEN? I mean I know where it's been. It's been right here and it's taken me awhile to find it. But dang, what an interesting and fun analysis of some depictions of Satan!
14:35 in reality you can see the figure of satan,it is kind of a "mostly human with goat parts man",some youtube channels cleared this scene and make it possible see clearly this figure,a little bit more creepier,Dead Meat kill count of The Witch its a good example, that covered the film analysis with more brightened scenes
Close one between Quatermass and the pit, and The Devil Rides Out, both scared me as a kid, but both gives you something to think about, except the angel of death at the end of The Devil Rides Out,but maybe the devil is not like any of these..
