I got one with 4k60 and built in SSD. Incredible device! Another powered hub into that, and all my connections go through one port, charging, storage, screen, usb's... let's hope it keeps working!
I use it and I like it. I even connect it to the power supply sometimes to charge my iPhone with USB 2.0 port. It works with perfect 4k, reads the cards and is really very useful. I love it.
Agree with previous comments - excellent video production. I actually own this hub but was interested to hear another opinion. You made me want to go buy a 2nd one! (but I didn't; it's not a cheap one)
I think it's also important to note that this hub only support '30hz' output at 4k. This makes animations look less smooth and to some, choppy. This is a deal breaker for me. 60hz is so much smoother and very fluid.

Hi I have had this hub for 2 years and now the cord is not staying connected at the hub itself. I have to put it in the right position for it to connect now and turn the light on. Very frustrating did not expect to have to repurchase at 2 years.
There is another model of Satechi without ethernet port BUT the HDMI one works @60 Hertz. The one you gave us this (superb) review works @30 Hertz. Would you consider give us your experience with an external monitor at this refresh rate of 30 Hertz? Thanks in advance
Great video production! I have a question i hope you can answer. I've been researching quality type c hubs for awhile now and the satechi seems like a solid choice. Yea. Exactly. Rest of the internet says 4k @60hz. Looks like its key feature. Did the reviewer test 4k? Did he accidentally get a V1? Or did we simply misunderstood the marketing texts? Anyone tried 4k@60hz with the V2?

I just purchased an Elgato Cam Link capture card. I have a MacBook Pro with only the "C" ports. I actually have a Satechi Type C multi-port adapter. My camera works while connected (for Zoom meetings) but I haven't really tested for a long period of time. With my camera attached and running could I steam for over an hour without any issues?
It's hard to accept this hub as the ideal/best hub for MacBook Pro 15 as the hub can deliver only 49W to the Mac whereas the Mac itself can accept 87W with the included charger.

Im having trouble with many hubs. I found problem that is very annoying. You have to plug hub firstly and then charger. In other way hub wouldnt charge your macbook. Is this hub having same problem? Or you can plug charger into hub and then into macbook?

Satechi Mulitport Adapter V2 I have a Macbook Pro 16 Max and when I plug this product into my mac, without anything else plugged into the “hub”, it gets really hot? Why is that happening? ( There is literally nothing going on with the “Satechi Multiport Adapter V2”, it’s all empty ports and it gets hot ) Plus when using it for all day, when I unplug it at night, it kind of shows “electric spike”, or whatever you want to call it, can it damage the laptop? I am really confused?

I can only test it with the fastest SD card I have which is a Sandisk extreme 90MBs. Write speed is ~45MBs, Read speed is ~92MBs so I believe the SD card slot supports up to UHS-I speeds
Good Video. I bought a UNi Hub from Kickstarter. While its just great my issue is with HDMI. If I use HDMI cable then I do not get all resolutions on my external 4k Monitor and even if I manage to get it, it's not crisp. The only way I can make it work with my monitor is to use display port to USB C (display port to mini display port on my old Macbook 2015 model). So now my one cable dream is shattered and using 2 cables :)
Yo, I got the new MacBook Pro m1 2020, there's a lot of people saying that charing through the usb-hub has fukkked up their computer. Do you have any idea if it's true?
I got mine for my fairly new 2018 MacBook Pro Vega 20.....and have had one bad recurring issue. It takes good 4 min for the ports to activate (I have Logitech mouse and an external keyboard), meaning that for the first 5 min or so nothing works even though the blue light is on.If I disconnect the hub and reconnect....the same problem all over again. I called the company, and they were gracious enough to send me a new unit but I still have the same issue.
I'm not following why you wouldn't connect several portable hard drives? Either those are USB 3.0 ports or they aren't. If they are 3xUSB 3.0 ports you should be able to connect 3xportable hard drives... or even more if they run in USB 2.0 modes too.
The ports can supply full USB 3.0 capabilities but when it comes to power output to those devices it depends how many you have connected to the hub and if they require more power than the hub can supply. If the hub can’t power all the devices at once, they get ejected from the computer.
@@TechKnot USB 3.0 ports are rated at 900mA and your average portable USB 3.0 drive pulls 500mA to 900mA depending on what mode it's running in. If the USB 3.0 ports on the hub cannot provide 900mA of power then they just AREN'T USB 3.0 ports. Externally powered hubs get away with it because they provide the full 900mA when they are plugged in. However, since this is an unpowered hub it MUST provide the 900mA directly from the bus. This wouldn't be hard as there is 5A coming straight from the thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port. I honestly think you should run this test if you're going to make the claim because guessing about such an important issue isn't a good idea at all. I regularly connect 4 x 2TB portable HDs to 2 x unpowered hubs connected to my old macbook air 2015's 2xUSB 3.0 900mA ports. I don't see how this would be any different.
@@petercohen3966 You have to remember that this hub is capable of more than just USB and that not everyone has a MacBook. The power from the computer is used for all the ports in the hub. This includes HDMI, 2 SD card readers and the ethernet port. As I stated in the video, when ALL are used at the same time there is a risk of using up all the power the usb-c port can supply, which is why I don't recommend it.
@@TechKnot none of which would exceed the 5A rating of the Thunderbolt 3 port. Even with 3 hard drives connected there's still 2.9A left over to go to HDMI (max of 900mA) and leaving another 2A for ethernet (max of 500mA) and card readers (around 50mA). I think you are misinforming people if you aren't doing the actual tests of connecting devices. Guesswork isn't helpful. Especially since it's quite probably that someone with a Thunderbolt 3 (USB 3.0) port might indeed connect up everything, including 3+ portable hard drives.
Wow ... looks like everyone is jumping on the Satechi bandwagon. I haven't tried it yet - my MacBook Pro 16 hasn't arrived yet - but this is the one I chose . It features 100w passthrough and USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports (5 gbps), so your SD cards and USB-A ports should run at full speed. Oh, and it's $33.99 at amazon.
