Thanks for saving me the hassle. I was about to order this for my m1 MacBook Pro because it was one of the few USB c hubs supporting 4k@60Hz. I assumed because it’s 2021 it must be using DP 1.4 similar to the A2119 Apple multi port but given your video and the one other review on Amazon, it looks like it’s just mislabelled 4k@30Hz :(

You’re welcome! Yeah it was very frustrating-I want to get 4K60 on my external monitor with my M1 MacBook Pro but I still haven’t found a way to do it. Let me know if you figure it out! Thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe for more awesome tech videos!

Please let us know, I also just got an M1 Air and have a LG 34" monitor and want the best HDMI output. On Amazon the Satechi says 4K (30hrz) but in the info below it it states 60 hz...? Weird. Thanks for any updates... Have you tried another HDMI cable? HDMI 2.0?
@Warenotice
@Warenotice 3 года назад
Yeah I’ve never been able to get 4K60 over this adapter unfortunately. Not sure why though!

@jace888au 3 года назад
@@ekphotography do you need gigabit ethernet? If not there's a good generic hub option available with 100Mbps ethernet but 4k 60.

Teachers use VGA because they don’t necessarily have the newest display equipment to work with and have to buy their own adapters to make things work. Please save the disconnected assumptions. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Hopefully there is someone out there making M1 max videos you watch saying “Duuuh ,I don’t know who still uses usb-c adapters”

I'm running it @4K 60hz without an issue. I think you should check your monitor
@Warenotice

I don’t think it’s the monitor, since I now have the M1 Pro MacBook Pro and use this same monitor with my new computer by plugging an HDMI cable directly into the MacBook (rather than by using this USB C hub). With this direct connection, I’m able to get 4K 60. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

That fail hub still not support 60hz on 4k ? Anyone knows? Cause on their site they insist that is 60hz.

Could it be that your HDMI cable is not HDMI 2? Please let us know as I am looking for the same thing...

I doubt it-I use the HDMI cable that came with the monitor, which also advertises 4K60 support. I unfortunately still haven’t figured out a way to get 4K60 on an external monitor with my M1 MacBook Pro. Hope this helps and don’t forget to subscribe for more awesome tech videos!

Hello there! I'm interested in buing this Satechi hub and also I need this 4k 60hz option, so my question is that thing still only offers you only 30Hz? This problem hasn't been resolved yet? (Maybe it is necessary to use only HDMI and nothing else because HDMI needs porwer to give his full potential?)

Hi Warenoticer! That’s a great question-yeah I’ve just given up on the 4K 60… I haven’t been able to get it to work and the replacement Satechi sent me also only does 4K 30. Very frustrating. I also tried purchasing a Belkin USB C to DisplayPort cable to see if that would do 4K 60, and was disappointed when my monitor and computer did not even acknowledge they were connected when I used it to plug them in-it didn’t work at all. So, I’m not sure if this is a problem with my M1 MacBook Pro, my monitor, or the hub, as all three advertise 4K 60 support. Hope this helps and don’t forget to subscribe for more awesome tech videos!

@@Warenotice , have you tried with a different HDMI cable? It has to be fully 2.0 or 2.1 compliant.

Good question! No I’ve only used that HDMI cable-however that’s the one that came with the monitor. So I would think it would work? But good suggestion though and don’t forget to subscribe for more awesome tech videos!

Hello! My comment must be too late for this post, but might help for the future viewers. Haven't figured out a usb c hub that supports 4k 60hz as well. But luckily, HDMI 2.1 works when you connect directly from your macbook (Im using macbook m1 pro 2021) - my HDMI is belkin.

Hi, I bought a M1 Air and I really want this adapter but I'm on the fence because I need to connect an external camera through the USB A port (plug and play camera - I'm a teacher and because of the pandemic I have students both in the classroom and watching at home through zoom), but the Satechi site says that the USB A port does not carry video. I'm not really sure what that means but in my mind that means that I cannot connect the camera to my M1, I was wondering if you knew anything about this. Thank you for any information! and thanks for the video it was really helpful.

Great question! I’d love to help-our teachers are super important! To clarify, this external camera is a webcam, right? I initially wanted to tell you not to worry and that I’ve already used a webcam through this adapter several times, but then I remembered that in fact I was using that USB A webcam with an entirely different laptop 🤦‍♂️ (a 2015 MacBook Pro, with a built-in USB A port). I would test it out and see if this hub works with that webcam, but I only have the hub with me, not the webcam (I don’t use it anymore and only used it on a few occasions). Thus, I’d recommend reaching out to Satechi as I’m sure they can let you know if this adapter can support a webcam through its USB A port. Hope this helps and best of luck!

@@Warenotice thank you so much for the answer and the support 😁! It is kind of a webcam, albeit a huge one haha, it's a Polycom Studio mounted in the classroom, which means I can't even choose one that works for me, I don't have a choice but use it. I was operating it on the built-in USB A port of a 2011 MacBook Pro but the laptop started to give me a bit of trouble so I decided to get the M1, but didn't account for simple stuff like this. I just thought "I'll get an adapter, problem solved" but then I also have to connect projectors with the school installations and in some classrooms we have HDMI and others VGA. I don't want to carry a bunch of dongles, hence here I am, internet digging for answers, haha. Anyway, thank you again, I'll definitely write to Satechi, see if they get back to me!
