When I was starting to play drums, my drum teacher was teaching me jazz and Duke Ellington was one of the cats I was playing to. But I didn't want any part of jazz back then because it wasn't my thing. I regret it now. But your styling and swingin' is incredible! I'm gonna have to revisit my jazz roots now because of ya! Excellent cover!
Hi Jorge, I so happy that I’m inspiring you to go deeper in your listening and playing. I have grown to love this music over the years. I’m a rock drummer at heart! My greatest challenge is playing music that has no catchy melodies, over programmed sequences and drums and has a terrible singers! I find it hard to listen to most of today’s pop music! Every once in a while one stands out, but it is few and far between! Thanks for watching my friend! Listening is the key to playing all types of music. 😀
Thomas Nommensen my daughter bought this play along for me and it’s nice to play and read challenging music! I appreciate your support and feedback! 😀🥁👍🏻
Great, great job! Very laid back and in the pocket! I did jazz band in college and it was some of the MOST fun drumming I was introduced to! Anyway, your cover, here, was great fun to watch! A critical album for me back in college was a live album of Diane Schurr and the Count Basie Orchestra (1987). Dennis Mackrel was the drummer on that. Wow! He changed my big band playing forever! I bet you would love that if you haven’t heard/watched that!
johnsondrummer ... thanks! Yea after I dropped the stick I stopped playing it safe and just went for it! You know sometimes the red light brings on that fear that makes us play it safe, but my best videos are when I go for it! So I couldn’t beat this take! I actually like the stick drop! It adds a sense of this is how a pro deals with it to my playing. Anyhow I did it two more times .. this was take number 3 the keeper!
Lol you don't even want to know how many times I do it sometimes. At least 3 to 5 takes. Anyways you are so right about the the red light making us tighten up. I think thats why some of my live performance are better than my studio style performances. I think on my latest cover I broke the cycle though. I let lose and just didn't care. Pretty much what you did here. I really cant get over that snare sound. As im typing this comment. Im listening to the video again and holy cow that snare. Sorry I'll leave you alone but nice to see you let lose and have fun :)
Michael and Paul ... we all do it a few extra times! My best take is when we are relaxed enough to drop your stick and not miss a beat... that’s how I knew I was in the zone! My snare sound in this track was less compression and more open tone of my 5x14 Black beauty!
Man I absolutely love this Music and it allows you to play to expressively. Stunning dude on all levels and I included you in my recent upload buddy. That recovery was flawless 🙊
Whelan Drums ... wow thank you! Can’t wait to check it out! I am backed up on my RU-vid viewing! Also thank you for the comments! I thought the dropped stick was classic in that my playing got even more in the zone and I thought I’m throwing this one away so I’ll play it looser and throw more in! In ended it end up being the best take! I love the fearless playing! So cool you noticed my friend. 👍🏻
Hi Earl! I’m fairly new to the channel. I would like to challenge you to a DrumMan190 drum cover battle to the Dave Mattews Band song “So Much To Say.” If you would like to, just tell me what time works for you.
Thanks for watching Richard … you are talking about my intro? I made this video in 2018 …. It was before tictok and I’ll watch your video for five seconds on RU-vid! I appreciate you taking 35 seconds of your time to watch!
