Dr Robin Zasio from Hoarders wrote a book, The Hoarder in All of Us, I think. Anyway, she talked about her own drawer of make up and how old some of it was-because it’s expensive and involves good sensory memories of applying it and feeling good. It’s a hard item!

You do such a great job, Barbie! You are so right, some depression can’t be solved with meds, you have to make some hard decisions and change your circumstances. You are very wise and pragmatic. Hopefully, this home owner can keep going with the decluttering, she will feel so much better about life in general.

Thanks Barbie, this video was the most helpful I’ve seen of yours so far. It took me a few days to watch this video. Every time you said something that sparked my brain, I paused it to go do something. e.g. When you said pick up the clean clothes first, I paused and started to put away those items, including my long arctic-weather winter coat that I haven’t worn for 3 months. Just doing that really opened up the space. Please post at least one video a month cleaning a home that is cluttered but not infested. I (and I imagine others) cannot handle too many videos with bugs and rodents.

Saturdays are when I do a deep clean in my house. So there's nothing better than when I'm done,settling down and watching one of your videos Barbie 🤩 Having a clean tidy space is so good for the mind, it must feel so good for these people when you're finished. Hope they can get the help they need and learn to massively declutter and make it easier for themselves. If you haven't used something in 6+ months then clearly it isn't needed. Throw it away people! 😊😉

My favorite "hack" On Jan 1st, I turn all the hangars in our closet around backwards. Next Jan 1st, the items still on backwards hangars go to Purple Heart. We have a personal hack as well, which might seem kinda mean, but we don't judge and love people where they are. When we visit people who have cluttered homes/garages, we feel the need, when we get home to de-clutter....so we end up de-cluttering the house/garage at least 4 times a year. We love our friends/family, and if that is how they are happy, we are happy for them. We appreciate the motivation!

Hi Barbie A marriage is a partnership. That means all responsibilities are shared. You have the kids and the household during the week while he is at work and on the weekends he can watch the kids and household. It’s simple really. Your husband sounds reasonable and I can tell from the way you speak that you love each other and respect each other how you feel I am so happy for you both. A question that I recommend my clients ask themselves when they go through clothes- would I buy this again today? That is the number one helper. Another- am I keeping this because I got it for a good deal, or because it cost a lot? Let it go. The more you let go of, the more you love everything in your closet that is left. ❤ - love, a professional home organizer 😁

I really like this long video showing you sorting into clear groups quickly, and explaining, teaching at the beginning of each part. It’s very helpful. I wonder how you don’t get distracted by the owner. Don’t they comment about many things or want to see what you’re throwing away? That would slow things down too much!

For the pictures on the phones, they are making photo flash drives now for some phones, so if your computer is down you can use that-and trade in, sell, or recycle those old ones! And papers and craft stuff are the hardest jobs, I swear! I hate going through old papers😂 though every now and then it’s rewarding! “ Yay the manual to my” whatever it is! It really is an art! And helping someone be happier is a gift from your heart that is beyond value!❤❤😊 And the children’s hospital is a great idea! I can’t imagine a rougher time for families than when a little one is having difficulties!

If you have someone like a friend or family member, that you want to help , the 1st part is : Do Not JUDGE • Barbie is very good about it. 2nd) it's NOT always that they don't know HOW to CLEAN , for instance when I was raising my family , I was widowed, worked full-time, coached School Sports and cleaned homes on weekends & I kept my own home clean . I lost many family members within just a few years and had to deal with their estates . it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to go through a family member's belongings while you are going through the grieving process . Sadness is normal . It can also lead to Depression ; which can be paralyzing. On top of going through the above circumstances, I also was in a Auto Accident, which left me Disabled. After many Spinal Reconstructive surgeries, being in a wheelchair, told I would NEVER walk again ! I defied the odds, pushed myself beyond what I thought was even possible...I am now walking again ! So you want to help someone else,. try a little experiment : for ONE day put one arm in a sling ; then SPEND THE ENTIRE DAY .. getting dressed, making beds, doing Laundry, Shopping, Cooking, Dishes , Pet Care, Sweeping, Mopping, Taking out Trash ,etc . Then you might begin to understand just how difficult it is for some people, and HOW they can possibly end up with their house like that . I DARE YOU to try this for JUST ONE DAY ! 🤔 💬 ☝️ ☝️

Really enjoyed today's video. I'm fairly new to your channel, but you are already inspiring me to do a better job of cleaning my own house. You give the viewers excellent pointers and advice. You ARE an artist!! Plus, you speak from a place of empathy and compassion regarding your clients. Truly, I do not believe that people, with messy houses, want this to be the conditions they live in. Keeping a house, and life in general, can be very messy and complicated. And then, things get out of control and it's hard to find a way back to a better place. People get overwhelmed at how bad things have gotten. You give many of these people the hope and inspiration they need to move forward...just by helping them get started with better organizational skills and thought processes about what to do, what to keep, what to give away, and what to pitch. I'm sure your clients are so very appreciative of all that you do for them. They are blessed and lucky to have your help. You're an angel 😇 and just a lovely person. I understand that recycling is very hard to do in such jobs but ive noticed that u throw batteries in the trash too, they corode and polute the water. Is there a place you could safely discard those? We have buckets at the grocery stores here in europe for example.

I used to have tons of cosmetics, now I found a body wash that I can use on my face as well as my body, and lubriderm for my face -- my skin looks good. I don't use makeup except for lip gloss. I've whittled my collection down to very few items. My skin is better for it. I had lipsticks that had turned weird colours because they were so old. Edit: It took years and years to get to this point.

I have a friend who has so much stuff, makeup, jewelry, hundreds of footwear, purses and literally thousands of pieces of clothing. I put ten pairs of shoes in front of her, eight definitely were garbage but she kept the eight and let go of only two. Closets full of clothes, it’s mind boggling. But she refuses to stop shopping and brings more into the house. I have ocd so I give up. It’s too stressful on me and she can’t make a decision on anything.

If your community has a need to donate clothes or coats or shoes, it helps to know, I can give this, this and that to help someone else who may need it more. Some things take more time and you may not be ready yet. Consider any progress as a win. Remember, this is a first pass. It was kind of you to try to help your friend. Remember, you may not have attachments in time like she may. Try to work on the things she's not so attached to or wait until she's ready.

I had to clear up all the papers in my fathers house. I shredded for days. I try to clear out my files once a year so my kids won’t have to deal with it when I’m gone.

One thing (although I’m not a hoarder so probably doesn’t apply to them): during covid I gained 14 pounds In only 5 feet tall, so that’s a LOT, I had to (sadly) buy all new pants but yep, keeping my old ones, because I AM going to lose those 14 pounds and get back into my old clothes. I will donate the current larger size. I need those old pants as motivation

G'day, Barbie! I like how you kept the music soft and just instrumental in this video. It's much easier to listen to and watch without songs that have words. Also, I think I should point out something I spotted when you were going through papers in that bin. At 13:36, there was a piece of mail with the person's name and address on it and I know that you try very hard to respect your clients' privacy. Maybe you could simply not hold the papers as close to the camera in the future. Just a suggestion.

I may be speaking out of turn but I think no papers should be thrown away without the owner having a chance to look through them. They may have important or sentimental value to the owner. Plus, it would save you a lot of time.
