Golden October!
Wonderful autumn ride in Switzerland with my Orange DF XL Velomobile.
Downhill track from Sattelegg to Galgenen.
758 Hm difference over 15 Km.
I had to stop several times to cooldown the brakes before the wheel spokes became weak.
I tried to implant some telemetrie overlays with VIRB edit but had major export issues.

When I saw you riding downhill I thought of the brakes overheating, untill you were cooling the brakes with your drinking water. Excellent !!! 🤣🤣🤣 If you ride those exstreme roads more often it could be useful to install an automatic water draining system to the brake drums which you can start from the cockpit. A more continuous cooling would probably be safer and less stressful for the brakes.

Hi Torpedyellow, do you have experience with water injection? Will it effect braking power, when you use them during the ride?

@@Emmenn Hi Emmenn, I have no experience with water "injection", our downhill rides could be very steep and fast but not as long as yours. But I would think that spraying some water on to the drum contniously during the ride - not into them - will not effect the braking power because when one drives in heavy rain drums are sprayed with water on every vehicle likewise. It seems to me that flooding overheated drums with a splash of cold water could harm them more likely because they could be distorted by the great temperature differences and the drum is not round and not cylindrical anymore afterwards. But if that occurs in your case you would have noticed it already. Drive safely ! NIce videos and beautiful landscape. Thank you for sharing.

Super cool video and thanks for sharing. I live in the United States, and it's my dream / Goal just to do something like this 1 time , Im thinking of descending Mount Rainier from Paradice Lodge. Your video has re-inspired me .

@@Emmenn sir I wish I had a velomobile, Im riding a Catrike with 20inch wheels , eventually I will get a velo but for now it's out of my price range , there is a builder who is making bodies for Catrike that cost about 3700 dollars , Im looking seriously at that as an option

Did you notice the reduction of strain on the spokes because of the thermal expnsion of the drums and hub? It must be about 0,15 mm lenght increase at 300°C which will reduce the stability of the wheels probably.

No i didn´t not at all. When braking under high load in high speed conditions you`ll notice some fading in the braking power. Then you know you will have to cool them down some how. But the wheels stayed stiff.

have you thought about a automatic cooling down brake wire with water ?

No there´s no need for that. But water injection would be a "cool" solution. I might try something in the future with water injection.
