Saturday is for lifting. The gin pole gets to work 

The logs being lifted were extremely heavy. Eucalyptus logs that were recently harvested. Lifting anything over 8 feet in length was difficult. The gin pole made every lift fast efficient and safe.

Before I left for Guatemala I did some research and the name used was gin pole. It is old technology but it really worked well.

They are related but I believe Gin Pole is a single pole with Guy lines. An A-frame is considered shears. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shear_legs

Keith is correct, this is not a gyn pole which is a single with a set of guy lines, i prefer the term a-frame crane/hoist.

@@Joshua79CA single pole is a Standing Derrick. Two poles is sheer legs and three in a tripod formation is a Gyn. Unfortunately, any time I google Gyn I get the short form for gynaecologist.
