we repair ALOT of equipment for motion industries here in arizona. just about every video you create, I can relate to. There's not alot of people in my field of work, so I'm just blown away when I see the stuff you do, that I work with daily. you are a true artist, and at the top of the chain in this field. I appreciate everything you're doing for the rest of us who love to watch work, when we're off work.

I do a little bit of repair machining, but by no means am i a machinist. lol. I do spend some time in the machine shop though, picking the brain of our senior machinist for all he's got. I'm actually a millwright and welder in phoenix, arizona. our shops specialty is electric motors and generators including all types of pumps, gearboxes or anything that couples to a motor really. your work is truly amazing, and can't get enough of your channel, especially hogging material at ridiculous feeds. keep up the work man, and thank you for the devotion. you are an artist.

Hi Adam, I love it when you use the Anchorlube on your projects! We sell it and when you use it, we get inquiries about it. We send potential customers to your video to see what it can do. Jay Kilroy used the Anchorlube on his shaper in one of his videos. That was a first for me as I have never seen anyone use it on a shaper. I also sent you the sample of "Cape Cod Polishing Cloths" sometime ago and you were kind enough to give us a mention at the time that we very much appreciate. Keep up the fine work! Thanks again,Dana

Thanks for taking up the brazing/welding subject. I agree with your opinion and reason for brazing I've done it myself and have the same experience with hard spots when using weldment. I was one of "the guys" who asked about the brazing😀 I was a Machinist myself but now as a Mechanical Engineer but I'm missing the smell of fresh coolant, cutting oil and hot chips 😄 Going to the machine shop at work to get my daily sniff😀

Adam, Another great SNS! You working on that hydraulic actuator makes me a little homesick for a job I had. If the owner hadn't smoked himself (literally) to death (lung cancer that spread to his spine), I'd still be playing with actuation and building custom control boxes for our clients. 99% of the work I did was on electro-mechanical actuators. The hydraulic units I worked on involved replacing piston seals, output shaft o-rings, etc. I will get my picture entry in as soon as it clears up . . . Yes! California is actually getting rain! Thanks again for sharing! Have a good one! Dave

Hey Adam, I just wanted to throw out some info for you to look into for cast repairs. Lawson Cronatron 211 welding electrodes. I worked a lot of years in maintenance and found this rod to be pretty amazing. The 333 rod for dissimilar metals also works fantastic for removing bolts broken off inside holes, just plunge in straight down bolt holes and let the rod flow itself in. The flux protects the threads while the filler builds up on itself until you have enough build up to grab with pliers and turn out the broken stud. I suggest you try these 2 electodes and keep a pack of each in your shop, they're great time savers and get you out of trouble quick. Keep up the vids brother. Matt

Those big J wrenches are what I know as stem wrenches they are used to tighten & loosen drill bits on a drill stem used on a cable tool rig to drill a well be it water,gas or oil. Our family business is Drilling & Repairing Water Wells in the NW Corner of Ohio. I used them till I was 18 and we then switched to Rotary machines to drill wells with that was 1978.

Thanks for explaining why you prefer brazing to welding. It makes sense that the bronze would be easier to machine and I never thought about machining because as a mechanic I don't machine my welds. I always thought that brazing was inferior to welding but you've made me reconsider. Personally I do both welding and brazing on exhaust manifolds. I know the welds are very strong as we have torture tested them. Years ago I did a 1931 Buick exhaust manifold by brazing and that seemed to work well also.

The water-cellulose mix looks to be a variation/evolution of Pykerete which is water and sawdust. It offered strength and more importantly improved melt resistance over frozen water. The British considered it as a possibility for an aircraft carrier in WW2 as a torpedo resilient alternative to conventionally constructed ships. All in a good read in My Tank is Fight with loads of other crazy WW2 inventions that never quite made it.

Hey Adam. Love the spring loaded centre for tapping, will have to make one for myself. Looking at the internal threading head, it should work the same as a Coventry Die Head in that you can set the stops for the thread depth and when you hit the stop the head pulls out and automatically releases. Will be interesting to see. Keep up the great work.

It's either as you say cast steel or spheroidal cast iron , they used to make it at the pipe spinning plant it cuts like steel but has the compressive strength of CI as well as the corrosion properties of CI I had the chance while mending some gear in the labs to look at it under the microscope the graphite is in dots not flakes as is normal CI Stuart

Hi Adam, great video. I have never seen an horizontal boring mill in operation. What model is it and I will look it up to see more about it? Thanks
@BokuShanSan
@BokuShanSan 8 лет назад
Wouldn't it have been safer to wait to hammer the insert pins in until after you'd bored and tapped all 4 holes? I know you've got some serious clamping pressure going on but "just in case" as it were? It would suck to go through all that setup time getting everything aligned only to hammer in the pins and realize you didn't *quite* tighten it enough (or something managed to loosen up) and you've suddenly knocked things askew

@Abom79
@Abom79 8 лет назад
+papaike2 You can use a drill bit to drill it out. The instructions give the size needed, and the hole cuts into the 4 slots cause it to leaving 4 sections that will fall out once drilled.

the thing i wonder about these inserts is, what do you do when you strip them? you already runied their thread with those pins, so u cant just put in another one. after a minute of thinking i came up with this: i.imgur.com/iIJbRtA.png (yes its made with paint) basically you put in the insert, then bore a hole for a set screw and thread it. then drive the setscrew in there. the thing that is fastened to the surface should keep the setscrew from coming back out. alternatively you could just use some round bar steel, but it would be a bit loose with that i guess
@Abom79
@Abom79 8 лет назад
+fredlllll You can drill the insert, break off the tabs, and use and EZ-out to remove them if they get damaged. They are designed to be replaced if needed.
