Abom79 hey Adam... Les Bender got it right... just looked for Monarch stove on Google and found a link to a pic of the exact same thing you have ancientpoint.com/inf/112151-1920_antique_9__monarch_cast_iron_wood_coal_stove_shaker_crank_tool_167_drop_ash.html and there are other pics online that show you the exact construction this handle has been used at here is the parts page I found :-) www.homesteadstoves.com/monarch.htm

Adam, your Monarch mystery tool was made by the Monarch stove company. It is a grate shaker to shake the coals down from the firebox. It is diamond shaped, I think that made it stay on the shaft a little bit better, or it could have been unique to their stoves. Cody in Ecuador

That crank(Monarch) is a handle that you use to shake the grates of a wood cook stove..you would turn it like half way thru a circle and back and fourth to allow the coals in the burner chamber to fall into the ash tray underneath the fire box..then slide out the ash's and empty it..and put it back..

I am also involved in a cool film worthy line of work. I have even flirted with the idea of starting a RU-vid channel. Truth is that I am barely keeping up with my current workload and couldn't imagine adding to it. That being said I want to thank you for taking the time. Nice fix on the wheels. I had to do the same thing on my wheels after powder coating. Fortunately the front wheel has a little tolerance as the calipers will self center within reason, same with the rear. And the sprocket carrier has some with the angle of the chain a few thousandths won't make a difference. I like your bushing setup, a lot cleaner than my junk setup I did.

I've got a 14x40 lathe and a small mill. It's nice to see an actual pro in action. I don't have anyone around here to ask. I've been inspired to do some new projects. I made a cool clock using a rotary table on my mill. Uses individual LED lights for HMS. Looks like a big 12" donut with 60 holes for secs, 60 for min, and 12 for hours. In concentric circles. Made it out of 0.25" aluminum plate. Polished the aluminum up pretty nice. That clock kid inspired me. LOL

About that rusty handle you got from the wrench guy, I believe it is an ash receptacle handle for an old Monarch wood burning stove. The stoves had a square shaft sticking out the burner side and when there was too much ash sitting in fire box, you put that handle on the shaft and move back and forth and that would allow the ash to drop into the ash box, which you could pull out later and dump.

I've been a mechanic, professionally, for 22 years. I have never had a situation that required an impact driver until I got ahold of my 9" South Bend. Keith, this works only for standard nuts , does not apply to heavy or extra heavy nut, Nominal thread size, (1/2" for 1/2 -13) divided by two (1/2" / 2 = 1/4") then that dimension is added to the nominal dim (1/2" + 1/4" + 3/4") equals wrench size. Old trick in the Steamfitters trade. Nice work as always. Dan.

You bought some good items. I had some massive wrenches at my parents' house that either a neighbor gave or my grandpa and I think they were thrown out after a flood they had. The crazy thing is I managed to load my car that Xmas with tons of stuff prior to the flood and it was just luck I grabbed my massive 1/2 socket tool box with Snap on ratchets that my grandpa gave ,e . That all would have been ruined. I go to country auctions and the old tools sell for a fortune. I will check more of your videos. Thanks

I am confused on how the jig works for the wheel. I would think when you put your tool on it it would cause the wheel to spin independently on the shaft. Is it because you're taking very light cuts? Is there a shoulder somewhere I didn't see?? Good video btw!
@Nosedive4130
@Nosedive4130 9 лет назад
+MattsMotorz The first bushing contacts a shoulder on the mandrel while the other side of the bushing rests against a shoulder inside of the bore. The second bushing is slid into the bore and stops against a shoulder and then the nut is installed and when tightened, causes the bushings to sandwich the wheel in between them. You are correct, if he was putting a heavy enough cut, the the wheel would ultimately overcome the amount of holding pressure that the mandrel provided. If that would have happened, he would have needed to us what is called a drive dog, or provide more clamping pressure.
