Absolutely right, don't give up until you both have nothing to give. But I feel Mon was trying to do what's best for Sam. Mon has always felt that she was never good enough for Sam and with the grandmothers words, and Kirk and Sam set to marry, she felt she'd be more of a hindrance in Sam's life. I feel this was less Mon giving up on them and more her sacrificing her own happiness for Sam's future ease and happiness.
