After Satya (J.D. Chakravarthy), an earnest young man who came to Mumbai, India, in search of work, is thrown in jail for a crime he didn't commit, he must delve into the depths of Mumbai's criminal underworld to survive. I saw SATYA in cinema with two friends. We were shocked. We could never imagine such movie in Hindi cinema. One more thing. I know Manoj became famous after movie but we were most impressed by Chakaravarthy. We were amazed that such kind of hero can be in Indian cinema who is calm and composed.

Satya is so much more than a gangster movie. It is more about friendship, brotherhood, compassion and love. It is the human aspect that touches us also Manoj Bajpai did receive a lot praise but let's be honest JD Chakravarthy was phenomenal as Satya. I can't think of anyone else than him as Satya. Great casting for all the characters Chandar is ❤️

My father owned a dvd of this movie .My understanding as a kid was that he usually goes in for violent gory and sad stories, my father is no more now, now i have turned 31 and iam a on camera acting aspirant, now i realise that he had a taste in well made films, maybe its there in my blood to recognise good cinema. I dont like sad endings , but this film certainly is more than that . Thanks to technological evolution that we could catch this film online. Great film . 🤗

I would not always and every time compare our gems to Hollywood, also Goodfellas as awesome as it is, it does not have KALU MAMA type characters and off course the great songs this movie gave us despite being a Gangster fantasy, still gave us a believable love story, all these actors were not as famous as DeNiro but they proved themselves, this movie is a class apart.

Undoubtedly one of the best movies of our generation! An absolute masterpiece! Each and every character has performed splendidly (especially Manoj Bajpayee's Bhiku Mhatre) .. very realistic movie that gives us an insight into the workings of the Mumbai Underworld of the 90s! An absolute treat to watch .. have watched Satya atleast 4 or 5 times since I first saw it as a teenager and somehow it just never gets old! 👍👍 Seen some comments critical of JD Chakravarthy's acting as Satya. I think he played the role fairly well and ticks all the right boxes in the role profile - that of an outsider who is stone cold, emotionless (and later emotional on account of his relationship with Vidya) and doesn't give a damn about the consequences of his actions. People feel he wasn't as expressive but that's what the role of Satya is all about. Don't think anyone else could've done justice to the role the way JD Chakravarthy did it!

This film is a pure classic and showed how underworld operated through out the late 80s and early 90s. One will never see such a perfect ensemble cast not only playing the part but digging deep into the pyschic and playing their skin out .

Initially I watched not knowing the fact that these stooges are insulting my culture. Then I realized they are slowly poisioning our culture. Does RGV or anyone in Urduwood ever made such jokes with characters like Khuda Baksh and Muhammad Ali instead of Ram and Shyam? What a brilliant movie 🎬 .. Ram Gopal Varma in his peak created a Masterpiece that will be an inspiration for Filmmakers of all generations.. Brilliant Performance by Manoj Bajpayee, JD Chakravarthy, Shefali Shah, Govind Namdeo, Aditya Srivastava, Paresh Rawal !!! One of the best background scores by Sandeep Chowta I have ever heard for an Indian Movie .. What can I say about Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Shukla who wrote this World Class movie !!! I was 7 when this was released and until couple of hours back I was unaware what a masterpiece this movie was. It isn't that I was oblivious of this movie's existence. I never could summon the desire to watch it until finally I told myself that this movie made my parents and elder family talk about a lot. Truly regretted not watching this movie earlier but glad that I finally did. I'm 30 today and honestly this movie was literally way ahead of its time for Bollywood. The youngsters these days would not necessarily understand the cinematography or the acting skills here hence this shall forever be a historical gem for the 80s and 90s kids. Anyone who hasn't watched it, you are in for a classic treat from Bollywood's finest actors and actresses.

I've been watching this movie since I was a kid and it'll always be close to my heart! At first I always saw it as a movie about gangsters but as I grew older, I started to notice the other aspects of the story such as Vidya's heart break, Biku's broken family and Satya being a victim of his own life. Such a touching story and sadly a one that is close to reality for some.

Satya - this film, in my opinion, is the best film ever made in Bollywood. I do not judge films by their collection or the number of days it spent at big screens. The content and it's presentation is all that matters, the subject may not be of your interest but the presentation is important. A film is nothing but a visual presentation of content. On a scale of 1 to 10 i would rate this film at 10. With the fear of not being accepted by audiences, RGV added some songs to it but it's a brilliant show. Background scores, locations, camera movement, casting, action sequences, characters portrayed and the overall setup or texture of the film is outstanding.

This is cinema. The cast, the story, the direction everything is perfect here and the visuals of Mumbai in 90's were beautifully shown by RGV. And I never thought of crying watching a gangster film, some scenes were too emotional, Biku's death, Vidhya's heartbreak, Satya's death. Aditya Srivastava also deserves praise for his role. Masterpiece 🔥🙌🏻

SATYA is one of the best movie ever produced on Bombay underworld. Most of the actors were unknown at the time but they worked like professionals. Producers, writes, and almost the whole crew was waiting for some break and SATYA gave them. I have seen this movies almost 100 times and it never gets old.

Narrator of this story is Inspector Khadilkar, who gathers information about this obscure person - Satya, who caused a gangwar and high profile killings. Releasing year is1998, I watched this movie in Adarsh cinema situated at Novelty in Amritsar. At that time I was engrossed fully, after that so many times I have watched this Ram Gopal Verma's unique treasure. I have learned a lot of things from this movie. Gangsters' lives are the same as normal but their life is always in danger. Satya as an orphan has not had any goal in his life. Bhikkhu enjoys his family life, but the sad part is that he can not escape this filthy industry. Politician uses them for their benefit. Manoj received a National award and Satya (JD) who fell in love with Urmila, did a very fantastic role. He shows being a gangster, he loves. Urmila justified her character, she looks very beautiful. Kalu Mama is a great actor. I belong at Amritsar. Twice I have been to Bombay that city always fascinates but the dark side is there.

1:38:54 this was the last scene of Rakesh Joshi brother of famous actor Manoj Joshi . He died in a car accident . That’s why we can’t see him in this movie after this scene. He worked in 3 more movies which was released after 1-2 yrs of his death.

People praise the work of Manoj Bajpai, Chakravarthy and Suarabh Shukla and others in Satya, rightly so, but to me the last two scenes of Urmila stole the whole show. The deep emotional angst that she portrayed is unmatched. At it's core Satya is a story of love and loss when harsh realities of the cruel world hits you. Like they hit Urmila when Khandelkar interrogated her the agony she feels seeing Satya die is haunting. It's a pity Mr. Verma could never touch the same heights of story telling again.

At long last, I made sure I watched this movie before I die. Always had that "Mumbai ka don kon (which was king actually)" in my mind from Childhood. Every now and then would be reminded of this piece of childhood I missed out on. An extremely common name "Kalu Mama" given to people in our surroundings, was a reference to this movie which I never knew. Anyway, Really glad I finally did it!

Seen this movie several times. Watching now on its 25t year celebration. It is not like viewing a movie. It is like watching real life neighbourhood happenings. RGV, Chakravarthy. Kallu mama, and Manoj bajpai and all others Excel in their characters. It is simply superb. It is a movie never before ever after. Only a genius like RGV can make such a movie. He has revolutionised Indian cinema. RGV's fiancee's name has resulted in a classic movie. No words are enough to measure the intensity of RGV. RGV has become a brand. .
